If you haven't been rooting for Michigan State throughout March Madness, this heartwarming story may just win you over. Two years ago, the Michigan State basketball team visited a children's hospital, and Adreian Payne made a big impression on 8-year-old cancer patient Lacey Holsworth. When the pair met, Lacey was undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nerves. They hit it off and stayed in contact, with Adreian making regular visits to see Lacey. She regained the ability to walk in time to support Adreian on senior night, flowers in hand, and little Lacey also helped Adreian cut down the net when his team won the Big Ten tournament.
Of the duo's special relationship, Lacey's family told Yahoo Sports, "We've known it was a special bond from day one so it's always a blessing to hear that others agree. Adreian will forever be a part of our family." You can donate to Lacey's fundraiser on GiveForward, and if you plan to root for Adreian, he'll be hitting the court on Friday night when Michigan State plays Virginia.
