It's been 11 years since Steve Irwin tragically passed away [2], but his family has made it their mission to keep his legacy alive [3]. After a clip for the Irwin family's upcoming Animal Planet TV series [4] aired during Sunday night's Super Bowl, Steve's 19-year-old daughter, Bindi, shared an emotional video of her father talking about his family on Instagram.
"My first time watching this footage was only a few days ago. I don't think I'll ever be able to describe the amount of emotion in my heart once the video ended," Bindi wrote. "My dad. My superhero. I promise to do my best to make you proud and ensure your legacy lives on forever. A new chapter in our lives has begun as we embark on this journey with @animalplanet. There is so much on the horizon. We can't wait to share our story as a family ❤️🐊 #WildlifeWarriors."
Bindi was only 8 years old [6] when her father died, but she and her 14-year-old brother, Robert, have followed in Steve's footsteps by working with animals and wildlife. They even help their mother, Terri, run the Australia Zoo. We have a feeling Steve would be very proud.
