Celine Dion Opens Up About the Painful Loss of Her Husband to Cancer

Ever since Celine Dion lost her husband, René Angélil, in January [1] following a longtime battle with throat cancer, the singer has been candid [2] about how the devastating loss has affected her and their three children. While sitting down with Ellen DeGeneres [3] on Monday, she further opened up about what life has been like with their new family dynamic. "It is tough, I have to admit, but everything you just said is absolutely true," Celine said after Ellen noted how well she seems to be doing. "It's part of our life, and life has imposed this on him. That was his destiny, and I still feel extremely fortunate that he has given me three magnificent children. Wonderful pieces of luggage. As an artist, to feel confident and to experience enough and to keep going."

Celine, who's the proud mom to sons René-Charles, Eddy, and Nelson, recently honored her husband by attending a Stand Up to Cancer event [4] and also dedicated her Icon Award [5] to René at the Billboard Music Awards in May. It's clear that René's death certainly hasn't been easy on Celine, but she revealed to Ellen how she tries to stay positive. "I'm well because [René] is not suffering anymore, because the hardest thing is not to lose somebody you love, but to see them suffer," she said. "So for me to know that he is in a place where he doesn't suffer anymore makes me feel way better."
