Charlton Heston died

RIP Charlton Heston

Oscar winner Charlton Heston died tonight at his home in Beverly Hills at the age of 84. No cause of death was mentioned but his family released a statement saying:

"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support.... Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life... No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country... In his own words, 'I have lived such a wonderful life. I've lived enough for two people."

coffeeteawrecks gotta say I disagree with you on every issue. Like Heston I started as a Democrat and became a Republican when the party became hostage to the pro-abortion wing of the party. I met him in a retaurant and he was gracious, kind, interested in me and my kids without having any idea that I shared his ideology. He had class and dignity totally unlike Clooney and certainly Moore. His death has motivated me to do three things: boycott Clooney movies, join the NRA, and try to be as courageous as he was in standing up for what he believed was right even when it isn't popular. Even though Heston won't be around to espouse his views any longer, many of us who were inspired by his example will be. Hopefully my six kids will do the same and will teach their children likewise.

how is this sad? he had a full and rich life. it was his time to go. we all have to go sometime. i loathed him in his later years because of his politics (ALL of which i disagreed with) but loved him in "planet of the apes" and "soylent green."

I cried my eyes out when i heard the news, not only was he an amazing actor, he was passionate about life, married to the same woman for 64 years, and steadfast on his political stance, i respected and agreed with most of his views. He was a WW2 veteran, he was at Martin Luther Kings side during the civil rights march, he opposed the vietnam war, changed from being a democrat to republican in the 80s and stood behind reagan, and both Bush's presidencies. He was clearly an outspoken person about civil rights, and the right to bear arms, and the pro life movement. one of my favorite quotes of his is :"Political correctness is tyranny with manners" to which i completely agree. The reason i hate george clooney is because he once said that Charlton was afflicted with alzheimers and deserved it BECAUSE of his belonging to the NRA. I will miss his grace, his gentleman ways and his talent for focusing attention on important issues.

May he RIP, but like others have said, I don't agree with his politics at all. It really saddens me when someone with so much influence makes ignorant choices. However, I can always respect anyone for expressing their opinion honestly and unapologetically. And we all know he sure did.

"No matter what your opinion of his political views, lets try to keep it respectful." Thank you, well said!

He wasn't all bad, politics-wise - he was a HUGE civil rights campaigner in the 50s. Best performance: Cardinal Richlieu in the Musketeers films, but he gave some GREAT hammy performances too!

Anyone who believes what they see in a Michael Moore movie oughta get their head checked. Here's a great article debunking nearly the entire movie: If you don't agree with Heston's politics, thats fine, but you should research some facts before you come to that conclusion.

I was sort of ambushed into Bowling for Columbine. While I didn't agree with his later political views (and views on guns), he was a great actor and quite a humanitarian. He stood up for Civil Rights in the US and accompanied MLK Jr. on many of his speeches far before it was considered 'fashionable' to do so. My sympathies to his family and friends.

i'll never forget how he went to Columbine right after the school shootings to bully the friends & family of the victims, that was just so classy and humane of him.

May he rest in peace. He was a fine actor and had a reputation for generosity and kindness. Yes, Juicylemon, Mr. Heston marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. pn many occasions and was on standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for the "I have a dream" speech. He was a true to his convictions his entire life, that's an enviable epitaph.

From what I heard Michael Moore did lot of editing in his documentaries including in his interview with Charlton Heston in Bowling for Columbine. I also don't forget that he stood for civil rights.
