Danai Gurira goes way back with Sterling K. Brown and Susan Kelechi Watson. The three are all big-time actors now, but before they were starring in hit movies and winning SAG Awards [1], they were students at NYU's Tisch Graduate Acting program and were "such a little family." On Thursday night, Danai appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon [2], where she and the host talked about all things Black Panther [3] and Danai gave fans some unknown inside scoop on her friendship with the real-life Randall and Beth Pearson from This Is Us [4].
"Sterling's my big brother," Danai told Jimmy. "He reminded me the other night, we were almost roomies, and I forgot about it entirely." We all know the postcollege struggle of looking for inexpensive apartments, and of course, Sterling was a gent and wanted to rent Danai a room. Years later and they're winning awards for Black Panther [5]!
As for her friendship with Susan, the two "went through everything together," and although she was a year older than Danai in graduate school, they have been by each other's sides over the last 15 years [6]. Watch the video to hear all about Danai's adorable longtime friendship with Sterling and Susan, and see photos of the group ahead.
