Did Letterman Go Too Far With The Paris/Jail Jokes?

Paris Hilton visited the Late Show With David Letterman on Friday night and the interview didn't go as planned for the heiress. She was there to promote her new fragrance Can Can and talk about Repo! The Genetic Opera, but Dave just wanted to ask about jail. Paris stayed good natured even though she very clearly wanted to change the subject. She eventually pouted until she got her way, but not before Dave got in a few good jabs. Watch it below and let us know — do you think Letterman crossed the line with Paris?

i thought he was terrible. aren't we over the jail stuff by now or then i guess i should say. it was really ridiculous, obnoxious and sad. i'm not a paris fan, actually i'm incredibly tired of her, but this was terrible. i thought she handled it well, if it had been me, i would have torn up his so-called question card. the part where she did the pouting and little girl voice, i mean w/e, she's not as mature as she could be, but clearly neither is dave.

No he did not go to far. She wants to go on his show and wants him to kiss her butt and advertise for her. I wished he had gotten to her a lot harder. She has not changed a bit. Just a spoiled immature rich kid.

Poor Paris! Even though she should have stood up for herself more, that was rather rude of Letterman to go on like that, he should have been a little more sensitive.

It was funny of course but I did feel a little uncomfortable watching it. I felt bad when the entire audience laughed out loud at her when she was describing her new movie role...

The interview was awful - so many people have already asked these questions - and Paris is obviously doing better now. I think people should lay off her. She is trying to change, but it is hard to do that when everyone zones in on all the bad things.

I think he did his job. He was funny and got a response - both from the audience and from Paris... I hate it when interviews are censored as per the guests request.

I saw this when it first aired, it was hilarious. She got so uneasy and was so much fun watching her squirm in the chair hahahaha.

It may be low... but that's what he gets paid for! If she didn't want that to happen.. she should'nt have gone onto his show... she can't possibly be that stupid. or can she?

I don't think it was funny, he was out of line and he should have stopped when she asked.

I can't believe that anyone feels sorry for Paris Hilton. Our lives are a series of choices and she's made the worng choices over and over again. And the only thing about Paris Hilton that I'm jealous of is her bank account. Man, the amount of good I could do in the world with that checkbook boggles my mind.

She should have gone on Martha Stewart, like Lindsay Lohan. They've both done time, so at least she would have been sympathetic.

I think she deserved it. She's been a spoiled brat her entire life. She's famous for having sex with an older guy and taping it. You can deny it all you want but that sex tape made her internationally famous. She can't act. She can't sing. The only reason she got those two above jobs is because SHE HAD SEX ON CAMERA. She lies her head off in public about her behavior. "No, I have never done drugs." She's racist and homophobic and not to mention a stuck up, snotty spoiled brat. Most of her fans don't even realize she's made fun of them - you know when making fun of people who aren't worth multi-millions. Her and her sister, on camera, in public, and it can't be denied. She still has yet to prove she's changed to me and most of the general public. Talk to me in a year and if she's still not partying it up, she's still doing charity work, THEN, I'll change my mind. Until then, I'm fine believing she's just got employees around her who are good at their jobs - spin control and image fixes.

Paris was on Letterman to promote her self and her products. Dave had Paris on his show to get people to watch it. Both people are using each other to suit their own purposes. As for Paris looking like she wanted to cry and pouting ... please. More manipulation. Celebrity promotion is about selling the perception. As for Dave grilling her, he has a right to ask questions and she has the right to refuse to answer them.

I have no reason to feel bad for her. She brought everything that happened on hersel. I can't stand her!

Okay, here goes, Paris has no talent, her claim to fame is coming from the Hilton Clan, making porn, and breathing. Her TV shows arent entertaining, and frankly the whole world is tired of her bird face and wonky eye. Letterman did the right thing by completely grilling her about her jail time, because he recognizes that Paris is a waste of time and space and why not make her feel exactly like the burden she is on society. What did she expect? for him to ask her about her new perfume line? how her um, career is going?

Oh, and one more thing--I don't think anyone should feel bad for Dave humiliating her. She does a good enough job with that all by herself.
em1282 em1282 9 years
At least someone had the guts to ask her about jail--he even threw in a mention of scurvy. It's satire. Her whole life is one big joke--anyone who tells me that she "works" is kidding themselves--so it's only fitting to have her interview be a joke as well.
