Did Miss South Carolina Redeem Herself Today?

In case you missed it, Miss Teen South Carolina bumbled her way through the Q & A portion of the Miss Teen USA pageant and didn't exactly come off as the brightest crayon in the box (check out the video here). This morning on The Today Show she tried to save face by answering the question again. Watch the video and tell us what you think - was Miss South Carolina able to redeem herself?

Poor girl, but look at the bright side she had the guts to do what a lot of young girls just dream of.What she did was better than blanking out and saying nothing at all.....don't you think?

I feel sorry for this girl.... I think she was just nervous the first time around, but her second answer did sound a bit rehearsed.

Everyone answers questions better when you have time to think about it. Put her under pressure again, see how she does then!

Argh, just deepens the bad reputation.

I dunno. I still look at her like she's an airhead but I gotta say, that was a much better answer.

yeah, that was a really bad answer.... but how many of us can say we're that cute?? not me... i don't wanna say anything scathing about the poor girl out of jealousy.. keep in mind she's only 18 too

And I kinda want to know what the people condeming her first AND second answer would've said. Quick, without researching or thinking too long, come up with an acceptable answer! Go go go.

Geez, you guys. She's human. She made a mistake. Maybe she still doesn't have a genius IQ, but neither do most of us. She has different interests than a lot of us, entering beauty pageants and such, but I don't think she's an airhead. I think we go into things like Pageants and assume the stereotype of all the girls being airheads, and that really blinds us to how they are in real life. Public Speaking is the number one fear in the world, coming first before DEATH. I think she deserves a little slack. She's human. She made a mistake, that was REALLY understandable in the circumstances. Can you really honestly say you wouldn't be a little nervous on national television, all alone on the stage answering a question in front of millions of people judging you, on and off the panel?

Um, furthermore I really dont think she redeemed the children in africa, whatever, i mean Iraq, oh america needs maps and stuff, like okay.

No I don't think she redeemed herself any, she might not be an airhead but she isn't helping dispell any exsisting stereotypes of blonde southern beauty queens. I understand nerves not really hearing the question but where did that answer come from?

Hilarious!!!

my fave part of her answer was when she said something along the lines of "cos they don't have a map". priorities people ! first let's get all Americans maps and then we can deal with the rest later!! :oy: :oy: ... and it's great and all that she's been given the answer a couple of days later, but I don't know how redeeming it is ... I mean if you wrote an exam and got an answer wrong , then read up on what the actual answer was ... good for you and everything but that won't change the results of the exam. ... hopefully this girl 15 minutes is over soon and she's not the new Tara whatshername(the former miss usa)

Sadly it was an easy question to begin with... obviously having common sense is not a requirement to be a pageant girl.

I feel sorry for her. But she is obviously daft as a brush. The fact that she had to have a second go only reinforces that.

And what is with how she pronounces ALL her words anyway?
PinkNC PinkNC 10 years
I don't think she will ever redeem herself for that one.

I am FROM South Carolina, and feel horrified that someone like her represented our state. I realize that it is only a beauty pageant, but many people seem to think that all southerners are stupid and ignorant like her, which is not true. I know PLENTY of beautiful and SMART young women, and I am appalled that they let her represent our state on national television. Even in her (obviously) rehearsed interview, she still sounded like an airhead to me. You know, I can totally understand being nervous "and such", but it was just clear that she really just has no idea what is going on in the world. But PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don't think all of us South Carolinians are ignorant like that. I would also like to point out that she RESTATED the question when answering it the first time, yet she claims this time that she "didn't hear the whole question" UGH.

See I would have thought wayyy off the mark..I would have said something like It may be because 20% could be from another country and did not start off educationally in this country...and never had the geography that the other 80% of born Americans had..lol I guess I would have gotten laughed at too!

how do you know she was in smaller/lower scale pageants? Just wondering..did she say that? My daughter is almost 17 and I went throughout the pageant process since the time she was 2 and she won over 170 titles..and this was in South Carolina. Beauty Pageants are really big in the south...I'm sure she went to preliminaries and they were smaller, but even Pageants that my daughter was in as a toddler were a pretty big deal and they were televised locally. If she has been in the business for years she should have done much better.

I couldn't watch more than thirty seconds of the video- I couldn't get over the fact that 20% of Americans can NOT find the United States on a map!
