Did Roseanne's Tirade Against Brad and Angelina Go Too Far?

Did Roseanne's Tirade Against Brad and Angelina Go Too Far?

Last week Angelina Jolie announced that she didn't know who she was voting for yet, and Roseanne Barr took to her blog this weekend to respond to that and Jon Voight's recent endorsement of John McCain. Roseanne didn't hold anything back as she called the Jolie-Pitt kids "dunces" and unleashed a tirade on Brad and Angelina about how they should be supporting Barack Obama. Here is an excerpt:

jon voight your evil spawn angelina jolie and her vacuous hubby brad pitt make about forty million dollars a year in violent psychopathic movies and give away three of it to starving children trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more. (just sayin').

You can read her whole rant here, and tell us — did Roseanne go too far?

First of she wears a machine gun necklace that her sun designed . Since most boys at that age are into drawing weapons. And she’s not smuggling guns to the third world country’s she does work in. Who cares what she wears., or how much she makes and gives away. Its there money to do as they please with.. Get over it Just because they are 2 talented beautiful people with a lot of money .People think they have a right to Judge them . In less your kids are play mates of there’s and having sleep over you have no right to judge because it doesn’t affect you. As for Roseanne Well her 15 minutes wear over a long time ago and she’s just nuts any way.

Roseanne has many skeletons in her closet. I don't think she would want them made public. If you want to see someone hide, contact me. I can backup any comment. The media would have a hayday with this info on Roseanne. IF she wants media attention, she would get so much she would move to another country. Shame on you, Roseanne.

I think that Roseanne's comments are really unnecessary. It's really no ones business what they do with their money or who they want to vote for. Voting is private for a reason. Whatever they give to charity is good and it's more then what some people give, some people give nothing! They take good care of their children from what can be seen. It's not fair to attack people for the decisions they make that clearly seem to make them happy!

Hey, I have friends and family members I do not tell who I vote for. It is every person's right in America to have a vote and to keep that vote private. It is every person's responsibility to vote for a candidate that they feel will best lead our country. Anyone seen that old movie where Richard Prior runs a campaign? "vote for none of the above'?

wow...so THEY consume more than their fair share....and yet, what charity work has roseanne barr ever done in her life? she is DISGUSTING and hates on others who are more successful than her! she CANNOT tell anybody who to vote for. last time i checked the usa was a DEMOCRATIC country! yuck, roseanne is so gross...

California, you're right that there are no "Purely" selfless acts. I mean, when ANY of us donate to charity, we do it not JUST to help the charity but because it makes US feel better. However, there are millions of "anonymous" donors to charities every year. The red cross is run by THOUSANDS of "anonymous" people. They don't ask for nor want the recognition. It all comes down to how each of us look at it. I see what she does as narcissism, you see it as humanitarianism. Well hell, maybe we're both right. LOL

Angelina has been pretty honest about liking recognition for her activities outside of acting.

Problem with celebs like Angie is that they do not bring AWARENESS to the problem. They bring attention to THEMSELVES. Period. Actually, they do bring awareness to the problems in the world. I have heard of UNICEF, but I had never heard of UNHCR until Angelina became an ambassador in 2002 I believe (granted, I was only 13 years old at the time). That's just one example, and I'm sure other people have become more informed because of her. What do other celebrities teach us? Where the hottest clubs are, where the paparazzi-infested restaurants and shops are....yes, that is much more useful knowledge. Like I said, I give her credit for trying, it's more than some other celebrities do. Mykie7 - Thanks, and I do think to some degree that she wants to be recognized for it but I also don't believe there any purely selfless acts in the world. Yes, people do a lot of selfless things, but I think they would be lying if they said they didn't want to to get some appreciation for it. I think there was an episode of Friends that covered this topic... :D

People would be screaming either way if Angelina did endorse someone. They will never be satisfied, whatever she does. What has AJ taught me? New Orleans educational needs and school decay, NOLA health care crisis, Yele Haiti, Millennium Projects, Dr. Jane Aronson, the lack of legal resources for children in immigration court hell, how little it costs to educate a girl in Africa, Chad, displaced African women establishing a sewing cooperative as a means to economic revival with the machines AJ bought for them, thew stunning revelation that that the Cambodian people very much want their lives back and they don't want to children sold into sex slavery etc. I also learned that there is a real possibility of bringing back the habitats for the Asian tiger and elephant. I learned that there are 4 million people displaced from our heinous invasion of Iraq, many due to ethnic cleansing. Unfortunately that leads me to discover that over 700,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed due to this invasion and occupation.

This is funny, people saying Go Rosanne! Ew!!! Why? Since when is it a requirement that celebrities endorse a candidate? Who you vote for is your own business. Roseanne is way out of line. Everyone, celebrity or not, has the right to choose whether or not to disclose who they are voting for. Good for Brad and Angelina for taking their time to decide and not bowing to pressure to disclose. I wish some celebrities would stop telling us who they are voting for. Everyone should read, study and stay informed and make their decision based on their own beliefs and knowledge instead of just following what celebs do. Let's not cast our votes based on what Oprah or Angie Harmon or Ben Affleck or Tom Selleck or any other celeb thinks. Let's all think for ourselves. We are just as capable of making informed decisions as an actor or entertainer.

What has Angie thaught me?? What did I learn from her travels? Has she inspired me to help as well? ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you go to her fansites and blogs you'll see that her fans are raising money for her foundatton and other causes supported by Angie. Also I learned about Yele Haiti (Wyclef Jean's charity)and drove mme to inform myself about other different (cause I've been doing this as long time) foundations and charities there are.

California, you are absolutely, 100% right. My point though is that they should be HONEST about that. Instead of saying "I'm doing this out of the goodness of my heart" be honest and say "I'm doing this out of the goodness of my heart AND I want attention."

i think Roseann has a point mccain and obama are in a place where angelina and brad could make a decision and i think they should have thier minds made up by now. giving to charity does not make you a good person rich people give away money because of guilt and a tax break so thier charity contributions could be for any personal selfish reasons. but i do wonder why two white americans who seem to have a heart to help minorities do not support a minority, who will have thier dark children in mind more than mccain. this does make me go ummmm!

No, I don't want her to stop, but what I DO want is for her to stop saying "I do this to help, not for what I gain". ~~~~~~~~~ When has Angie ever said this? If Angie and Brad don't put their name on IT --- how does it raise awareness?
californiagirlx7 californiagirlx7 8 years
Mykie7 - "No, I don't want her to stop, but what I DO want is for her to stop saying "I do this to help, not for what I gain". To me, that seems a bald faced LIE, because IF that was the case she would NOT put her name on it. Brad too. He's supposedly doing this Aloe Vera thing but "Isn't going to attach his image or name to it". Um, hello? By even having it written about his name is now attached to it. It's narcissism at it's finest! He WANTS people to know the good he does." Its true that it seems narcisstic, but the point is to boost sales by having Brad Pitt endorse it. It would probably not make nearly as much if his name wasn't attached to the product, even though its name and face won't be on it.
californiagirlx7 californiagirlx7 8 years
I do find it a bit baffling that people are criticizing them because they give to charity. Like I said, nothing is never enough for some people. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt aren't going to solve the world's problems, and I'm sure they do a lot more than most people on this thread (including me!). They certainly do give more than most celebrities, and the main point is to bring AWARENESS to the cause, they never said they were going to save the world. They also have a family to raise so they can not afford to live in war-torn regions for weeks at a time, but they do have houses in areas like New Orleans and Cambodia, which have been affected by tragedies in recent years and they trying to do their part to allieve the terrible situation in each of those areas. Nobody is doubting that there are more noble and selfless people than "Brangelina," but they aren't the ones being talked about in this particular thread.

Thanks Juicy. No, I don't want her to stop, but what I DO want is for her to stop saying "I do this to help, not for what I gain". It's narcissism at it's finest! He WANTS people to know the good he does. And YES, the end result is GOOD and I'm OK with that, I just would like them to stop lying, as I see it. Again, this is ALL as I see it. I completely understand that many of you see it differently. It all comes down to opinions and choices, just like politics.

Mykie, great post I don't know if people are naive enough to think AJ and all the other stars like George Clooney, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle does all the work by themselves. Also, the UN chooses celebrities to be ambassadors (which means using their name for causes) for a reason. For you it's not necessary. But for others whose news=People magazine and Popsugar it is. They, as far as I know not missionaries or world savior, they are ambassadors or helpers in their own way. Just celebrities using their names for certain causes. As for media-attention, if a celeb wonders what he/she might do to get people talking, I prefer this celeb to decide to be involved in a documentary about Darfur rather than being involved in a sex-tape. I prefer the celeb who talks about hunger in refugee camp than the one who talks about how she lost her pregancy 20 lbs in 1 week. I'd rather read about the one who travels for the UN than the one who spend each week on vacation in Cabo San Lucas.

Angie does talk about the aid workers, field workers and peacekeepers a lot Mykie but if you did realize that I truly don't think that would be good enough for you. I think you want AJ to stop, right? All the reports are that Angie does stay in the village and sleep and eat with the people in the camps. They also say she doesn't travel with an entourage and/or camera person. Even on her own place in Cambodia the manager says she roughs it, and that her home there isn't any different from the others in the village with the exception of the helicopter and the generator. AJ was stranded once in Tanzania without any money or clean clothes or supplies after a week long stay when a studio canceled a premiere and didn't come to collect here as promised. Angie has talked repeatedly about how she has no complaints and can't complain because she has seen how drastically other people are affected by their circumstances. She was brought to tears watching the tiny children toiling in a brick factory in Pakistan due to a debt their father owed. I thin Doctors Without Borders is amazing and I'm sure that is why so many of AJ/BP's contributions, that have been made public, have been to DWOB. why shouldn't Angie and Brad bring awareness to these areas and the plight of not only the refugees but the people working to assist them. Oddly, I have seen this complaint about AJ so many, many times, but never from an aid worker.
Mykie7 Mykie7 8 years
I just want to ask everyone that thinks what Angelina is doing is so great, what about Doctors without Borders? What about all the missionaries that go to these countries for MONTHS on their OWN DIME, when many of them don't really HAVE that dime to spend. They do it because it's the right thing to do. You don't see time and newsweek covering THEIR stories. We sent 3 missionaries over to Cambodia last year. Our church ONLY paid the way for one family because it was their second trip. They WANTED to go back but just couldn't afford the plane tickets, living expenses for their family left behind, etc. So, the church paid for them to go a second time. Only 2 missionaries returned. The other died from disease. THESE are the people that deserve the praise. These people have suffered so that others might NOT suffer. This is what angers me SO MUCH about celebs LIKE AJ. Maybe it isn't THEM saying it, but all the reports make it sound like her, Oprah and other celebs like them are the only ones actually doing something. They aren't, and they should acknowledge that. For them, honestly it is fairly easy for them to go spend 3 weeks in war torn Iraq, or in Darfur or places like that. Do you REALLY believe they are staying in the villages of the affected people? Sleeping there? Living like they do? I seriously SERIOUSLY doubt that. It's easy for them BECAUSE they have money. Does that make what they do wrong? No it doesnt, they ARE still helping, but they ARE NOT doing all the good alone. They have a WHOLE TON of people that are doing the same things that don't WANT the recognition. They STILL make those of us in America aware of the plights without national media coverage. That isn't necessary. If they really were the people they claim, they would find ways to offer this help and leave their names out of it.
