Although it was originally intended to be dismantled after 20 years, the tower's use as a wireless telegraph transmitter allowed it to remain standing, and it's been visited by nearly 250 million people since it opened. Today the Eiffel Tower attracts almost seven million people annually, and each night, 20,000 lightbulbs glow as it sparkles in the Paris skyline.
