We initially tuned into the Screen Actors Guild Awards [1] on Sunday night to check out the stunning red carpet [2] and hear the speeches from Hollywood's best and brightest, but our favorite part of the show ended up being something totally unexpected: Glen Powell and his hilarious family. Few people were enjoying themselves quite as much as the Hidden Figures actor [3] and his mother, father, and sister, whom he brought as his dates for the big event. Glen shared snippets of their night on Instagram [4], showing how they danced their way down the red carpet (literally), danced with his SAG Award statue (literally), and took what is probably going to be next year's Christmas card. As he explained on Instagram [5], it turns out that his mom, Cyndy, and sister, Leslie, also had a helping hand in making Hidden Figures so special:
"It's @sagawards weekend and @hiddenfiguresmovie is nominated for "Best Ensemble." Even though this film has movie stars stacked on top of movie stars who brought the heat...I want to acknowledge the extra. More specifically the Powell extra. Even though their screen time is light, in preparation for this highly complicated scene when the Mercury 7 arrive to @nasa my mom and my little sister spent weeks learning spacecraft mechanics and advanced aerospace physics with a concentration in zero visibility orbital flight. While none of this is true, they didn't screw up the shot or get me fired."
After hanging with his family, the actor also made time to snap a fun selfie with his Hidden Figures costars, who took home the night's biggest prize [6] (outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture [7]). If we had to pick between going to a glitzy award show or hanging out at a Powell family reunion, though, we'd pick the latter.
