Idris, who drove on Pendine Sands beach in southern Wales, averaged 180.4 mph and hit a top speed of 186.4 mph, beating out motor racing journalist Sir Malcolm Campbell's 1927 record of 174.8 mph. Malcolm drove a Napier-Campbell Blue Bird race car, while Idris drove his Bentley Continental GT Speed. According to Bentley, Idris's car was a standard production car and was not modified for the test. The impressive task was captured for Idris Elba: No Limits, a new Discovery Channel series that will air in July.
