Jay-Z Performing "Picasso Baby" at Pace Gallery in NYC

Jay-Z vs. Kanye: Who Had the Cooler Public Art Project?

Jay-Z's album Magna Carta Holy Grail dropped this week, and the megamogul has been working hard to make it a huge success. On Tuesday, he participated in an all-day Twitter chat, answering questions from followers and fellow celebrities, but on Wednesday he took things offline and got face-to-face with the fans. Jay-Z popped up at NYC's Pace Gallery with the intention of performing his song "Picasso Baby" for six straight hours and recording the feat for a music video. He stood in the all-white space surrounded by fans, journalists, and even artist Marina Abramović for the event, which quickly made the rounds on social media.

But is Jay just taking a page from his friend Kanye West's book? On the night of May 17, Kanye debuted "New Slaves," a song from his recent album Yeezus, in an equally outrageous way — the rapper released audio-visual projections against 66 landmarks and buildings in 10 cities across North America, Europe, and Australia, including Jay-Z's home turf of New York's Brooklyn borough. Essentially, you could walk out of your house and watch a black-and-white image of Kanye's face rapping along to the tune, which is exactly what fans across the world did.

So, you tell us: which avant-garde star had the cooler promo project?
