5 John Legend Songs That Wouldn't Exist Without Chrissy Teigen

Apr 30 2017 - 2:00pm

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen first met [1] on the set of his music video for "Stereo" back in 2007 and tied the knot in a lavish Italian wedding [2] in September 2013. While it's common knowledge that John wrote "All of Me" for Chrissy, the R&B crooner was making sweet music for his wife long before the track came about. Remember "Good Morning" and "The Beginning"? Yep, you can thank Chrissy for those. In 2014, Chrissy even tweeted about her contributions to the music industry [3], writing, "2 grammy noms for @johnlegend no one has congratulated me for being the inspiration behind 'all of me' without me there is no all of me." Scroll through to see which other songs were inspired by John's other half.

"Good Morning"

"Good Morning" was the first song John wrote about Chrissy [4] from his 2008 album Evolver. During a Reddit AMA in June 2015, the singer revealed "morning sex inspired it." "My songs are always about love and devotion. 'Good Morning' is about sex more explicitly than I've written about before. Sooner or later I had to go R. Kelly on my fans [5] . . . without going all the way," he previously told Billboard.

"The Beginning"

John released this track before he and Chrissy tied the knot [6] in Italy in September 2013. The lyrics were inspired by his expectancy of a happy future with Chrissy after their first night spent together. When John debuted his album, Love in the Future in NYC, he revealed that Chrissy was left blushing [7] after they played this song in front of her parents. "She got a little embarrassed. The second line is 'We couldn't wait, we did it in the living room,'" he told the crowd.

"You & I (Nobody in the World)"

Not only does the music video feature Chrissy (and Laverne Cox), but during one of his LA concerts back in July 2014, John told the crowd how the track was inspired by his wife [8]. "When I wrote this song I was thinking about when Chrissy and I go on date night," he explained. "Sometimes there's all this pressure to look so good. This song is just letting her know that even before all of the makeup and all those fancy clothes, she's already perfect in my eyes."

"All of Me"

"All of Me" is one of the most popular wedding songs [9], and the lyrics were inspired by and written for Chrissy [10]. John penned the song prior to their September 2013 wedding and sang it to her during their nuptials. "I did cry when I heard it," Chrissy previously told the Huffington Post. "I'm emotional, but I really don't cry at things like that, but yeah it's beautiful and live it's pretty unreal."

"Love Me Now"

In addition to featuring Chrissy and daughter Luna in the music video, John spotlighted couples from across the world and from various walks of life. He later shared their love stories on Instagram [11], writing, "I featured my family in the #LoveMeNow video, but we also featured other couples from all over the world. I'll post their stories throughout the day today. #LoveMeNowStories."
