Oh, I'm sorry, did you think the feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift [1] disappeared when Calvin Harris did [2]? As much as you might've wanted it to (or not, I don't judge anyone's propensity for drama), the ceaseless tension between the two pop stars was recently cranked up a notch thanks to the "Chained to the Rhythm" [3] singer's interview in Vogue's May issue [4]. While Katy, along with other female celebrities like Beyoncé [5] and Lena Dunham, vocally supported Hillary Clinton [6] during the 2016 presidential campaign, one famous face was notably absent from the political fray: Taylor Swift. Lena, a close friend of Taylor's, actually defended her pal's notorious silence [7] at the time by saying "everyone has to do it their way." It's safe to say Katy doesn't agree with that sentiment, which Vogue's Hamish Bowles highlighted in their chat:

"I don't think you have to shout it from the rooftops," she says of her political views—she performed at the Democratic National Convention [8] and campaigned for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign [9]—"but I think you have to stand for something, and if you're not standing for anything," she adds pointedly, perhaps aiming at some of her deliberately apolitical confreres, "you're really just serving yourself, period, end of story. 'California Gurls' and fluffy stuff would be completely inauthentic to who I am now and what I've learned," she adds. "I do believe we need a little escapism, but I think that it can't all be that. If you have a voice you have a responsibility to use it now, more than ever."

Even if Katy's statement isn't directed at Taylor, what she says certainly fits the "Bad Blood" [10] singer's recent attitude towards politics. Although Taylor shared a photo of her heading to vote [11] on Instagram in November, and later tweeted about [12] all of the "love, pride, and respect" she had for people taking part in the historic Women's March in January, she's been continuously called out for her "false feminism," [13] and for using the "girl power" movement [14] to help sell albums but refusing to speak out on important issues. She's never come out and said, "Yes, I support the former beef salesman [15] who's now dropping bombs in Syria [16]," but by not saying anything at all, many feel she might as well have.
