I can't stand pacifiers. It does mess up a kids teeth that's for sure (if they are constant suckers). My 17 yr old niece ALWAYS had one in her mouth and it ruined the shape of her mouth and she had buck teeth on top of that. She sucked it until she was 3 and I remember in one professional picture she had made at JCPenney, all you could see was her hair, eyes, and shape of her mouth at all because she refused to spit it out, you couldn't even tell if she was happy or sad. My pediatrician was against them also. He said there is always a tug of war with things like circumcision and to or not have pacifiers. He said he opted NO when it came to his kids because constant sucking from infancy to age 3 or beyond builds up muscles in the jaw, tongue, and side of the neck. He said that in some cases it's actually changed the shape of children's faces because of the lengthening and shortening of muscles in the mouth and face area that were not supposed to change that dramatically. He also said some experts believe it causes a dependency personality trait, that can lead to dependency of drugs, alcohol, ect later in life because a child learns to "depend" on something else (something foreign) to feel better rather than learning to deal with situations and obtain strength from within. It was pretty interesting the whole booklet he gave me on baby's brains and how they are "wired" for adult life and how things they do very early on can have an impact on that wiring.

Yeah, I don't get why pacifiers are so bad either. I mean, I know they aren't great for the teeth, but these days so many kids get braces for any little correction and all those teeth are going to fall out by the time they are nine anyway! I am not a mom so I suppose my opinion has very little weight. But...I don't know. It seems like something relatively harmless. Kids do things at their own pace.

lula29 - It's not just pacifiers. When you do have a kid, you'll find that people are unbelievably judgmental and strongly opinionated about every facet of parenting. :oy: Fun, fun. Freaking adorable!!!

I'm totally in love with this family, and I never post crap like that. I don't care about Suri or Shiloh or any of the other Hollywood babies (sorry) but photos of this trio literally make me smile.

There always seems to be a pacifier controversy on every thread where there's a baby. Why? I'm not being sarcastic at all either, I don't have kids and I'd really like to know what the problem is. Educate me please.

I'm sorry to disagree but in my opinion pacifiers should be banned!!!!! And no, not using them will make the kid suck it's thumb...sheesh....

I too think it is fine for Kingston to have a paci...he's only about 18 mos, my little cousin just recently stopped using hers, and she's 2.

I don't think he is that old to have a pacifier..It isn't like he is 6 or 7.. and they are a huge comfort to them.

My daughter is 14 months old.I always said she would be off the binky by the time she was 1 but it is a comfort for her.I know she won't want it forever so I'm letting her have it.
