Count me in as one of the people who was totally put off by all the contradictions. The event did make me realize how much energy is put into things like movies/concerts/award shows though, which I don't think is exactly what they were going for.

I know I sound like a Madonna HATER, but I'm not - I just think that her reign is over. She hasn't had a hit this side of the millenium and is a TOTAL follower for celebrity causes. How many other celebrities adopted a child from a foreign nation before Madonna decided to? Give me a break. I don't hate her by any means, I am just over her. If she would stop being such a diva like she deserves something, then I would stop posting. Again, I read somethign claiming Madonna was HEADLINING the ENTIRE LIVE EARTH Concert Series. Are they F-ing joking?

I dont see the point of this concert, i mean itis suppose to help people become aware of the enviroment blah blah blah but how much pollution did the concert make with all those people's trash and all that energy that was used?!?!?!!?

Abyss, my mum is 56 and she looks nothing like Madonna. She looks like most women in their fifties who have jobs and children and homes to keep and don't have the money for nannies or housekeepers or chefs or personal trainers or make-up artists or dermatologists or stylists or designer wardrobes and don't have three hours to spend jogging or in the gym. What's your point?

Enough with the Madonna HATERS!! POP seems to be full of them! Everything she does is criticized, get over it people she was better than a lot of other people at the concert. Her intentions are good even if people think otherwise. "Hey You" may not be the best song but it still gave a message and her other performances were memorable. She is almost 50, I highly doubt that any of your moms' look like that. And Madonna has been playing the guitar for years so she isn't trying to be anything that she isn't. Anyway, here is what an article, "But Madonna insists, following her involvement with Saturday's (07Jul07) Live Earth event, she has been forced to re-evaluate her stance on climate change. Her spokesperson says, "Madonna's agreement to sing at the Live Earth event is merely one of the first steps in her commitment to being environmentally responsible. "She is educating herself and her family and has begun to make changes around her that reflect her awareness and concern for the future of the planet."

It was a hypocritical concert. Maybe some of the actors should have shared a plane instead of taking their private jets. Not to mention all the trash that accumulated from the concerts. Should I go on about the amount of waste just ONE of Madonna's mansions produces? Maybe they should lead by example. And people think they are great for donating their time? It is free publicity for them. They do get benefits out of preforming.

just a question but do kanye, akon or fergie even drive environmentally friendly cars? if not that, but are they environmentally friendly? the only performance i liked was madonnas, but maybe its cuz i didnt really watch most of em, i did see Rihanna's though. Fittingly, she sang umbrella, haha. And, i saw metallica too. I didnt even know zach braff was there, damn. But yeah, i guess its great they did a concert to raise awareness, i know everybody can't be as environmentally friendly as they'd like to be, or drive a prius like leonardo dicaprio apparently does, but yeah "Meganoc2" has a point, they did donate their time&talent to do this event, so you gotta give em credit for that. We should the best we can, with what we have, i n my opinion. It doesnt matter if ur a celebrity or not, its one earth anyways.

I thought the event was a great tool for raising awareness, and it didn't presume to do otherwise. There is so much self-rightousness surrounding environmentalism, hence the misinterprtation of what John Mayer and others said. They were saying they're not perfect, but they're trying to make their own changes. John Mayer has taken steps to make his summer tour "green" by using bio-diesel in his tour buses. He's using his personal blog as a forum for raising awareness. I just don't understand how people can be so cynical about the environmental movement, and call all these people who dontated their time and talent hypocrites. This is not an all or nothing issue...

o yea corse it was hypocritical but i still dont mind admitting i watched it for the band, corse i care about the environment but i didnt stop me seeing a few of the acts.

I agree with the posts that pinpointed the underlying hypocrisy of the event. I don't appreciate being preached to by someone like Madonna, who owns stock in coporations that are less than eco-friendly. I'm usually reluctant to join any crusade that has a celebrity's face pasted on it. They seem to "care" about issues for a nano second before moving onto the next trendy world issue. Color me cynical, but I don't buy into Hollywood activism.

I did not mean "meaningless" for the cause but the way they promoted it. I am an environmentalist, not because of some celebrity fad or promotion but by sheer example from my parents.

I did not watch any of this simply because it was a Sunday, in the summer and it was a nice day. Why on EARTH (pun intended) would I stay inside and waste electricity to watch something so counterproductive and meaningless. Honestly, if they want to raise awareness they should go out there and do what they talk about. Get dirty already. On a side note: Toni Collette has a band? I saw her picture on www.instyle.com. She looked rocking and she's having a baby. Fun!

I didn't watch it, but looked for Madonna on Youtube, she's great. Inadee is right however. respect for the arctic monkeys and a few other bands who wouldn't wanna participate! besides Al Gore himself is a big hypocrit and his film isn't right either (we spent 3 fucking lessons about that damn film :IRK:) the man is a walking contradiction!

no pics of dave matthews?? i dvr'd bravo's entire 22 hours of coverage. i actually fast forwarded through most of the musical performances (except dmb, chilli peppers, beastie boys, foo fighters) and watched the short films. they were fantastic. i consider myself to be quite educated in environmental issues, but i still feel like i learned a lot. those films also left me feeling very inspired and hopefully that one small change can make a huge difference. i didn't feel preached at. quite the opposite in fact: you don't have to totally change your entire lifestyle, just incoporate one or two small changes into your life. they sold me on changing my light bulbs!
