Martha Stewart Discusses Jessica Losing Daisy — Insensitive or Realistic?

Jessica Simpson has been staying hopeful in the aftermath of her beloved dog Daisy being snatched by a coyote right in front of her, and Martha Stewart recently shared her two cents on the situation. Martha said,

"It's pretty sad. . . She should have watched it more closely, though. She should have been more careful."

Martha's no stranger to pet drama of her own, after her own pup Chow Chow died in a freak propane explosion earlier this year. One might think Martha would be more sympathetic after experiencing loss of her own, but tell us what you think — were Martha's comments insensitive or realistic?

Obviously she didn't have to direct her rant directly at Jessica. She could easily have provided information about ways to protect your dogs from coyotes. Problem solved, and she wouldn't look like a catty teenager.

I heard she was in Brazil when this happened! So how would she know what animals live in the area?!?

Wow some of these comments have left me absolutely speechless. I don't care for Jessica either but I wouldn't wish what she had to watch happen to Daisy on my worst enemy.I don't doubt for a minute that she loved that dog with all her heart and I'm betting she's probably spent many, many hours since then blaming herself for what happened. There's really no need to kick her in the azz when she's already down and suffering such a horrendous loss....

I'd be devastated and I feel so sad for her! I never leave my bichon out for long periods of time because I am afraid he will be attacked by something and I live in the east.I have seen some big raccoons and a few coyotes.

I'm not a Jessica fan, but my heart breaks for her in this situation. It's so hard to lose a pet. She may be irresponsible, but she clearly adored that dog and is probably going through such a hard time right now. PinkNC and jessred86, shame on you for being so insensitive and cruel. May people offer no empathy to you in your times of need.

I'm not a Jessica Simpson fan but it was clear from photographs that she loved her dog Daisy. I can't imagine anyone having to witness a coyote dragging their pet away, what a horrible image to have to replay in your mind. My heart goes out to her, she must be devastated. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones....ahem..... Martha.

I agree RoaringSilence... And how DISGUSTING of you, PinkNC. To even think that is an absolute disgrace, SHAME ON YOU! That's evil.

It doesn't even matter whether Martha told the truth or not.. there is something called tact.

Insensitive! "Chow Chow died in a freak propane explosion earlier this year"... especially insensitive after this! What advice would she give herself? Don't let dogs go around propane tanks?

It seems that Jessica loves to throw away everything and everyone in her life that’s kind to her, but also needs her to become responsible for a long amount of time. So maybe that little dog was getting into her way too much as she was traveling. It would not surprise me at all if that dog was neglected on purpose. It could have been placed in an area where Jessica knew it may be harmed. Responsibility can be a b*tch for immature people. And Martha’s comment doesn’t bother me at all.

I dont understand why people choose to be so hurtful to a person in such sad time just because they dont like her. She lost a beloved dog and know it is her fault? This is not about jessica simpson singing, tv deals etc, it is about a human being facing a very sad moment.

i have a 7 yr old maltese. who is my heart and i take care of her like she is my heart. when we r outside she stays very close to me. ive had bigger dogs try to attack her and i lift her over my head so that they jump on me trying to reach her. i feel bad for jessica simpsons dog, not her. im sorry that she didnt take care of her dog like i take care of mine. then the poor little thing would still be alive.

How heartless jessred86. You mustn't have pets. And I'm sure losing your dog in any way is punishment enough.

of course martha stewart is right... jessica's dog suffered a terrible death because she wasnt careful enough. she would have known there were coyotes in the area and made sure the dog stayed close to her. if she didnt know, then she should have. that dog was her reasponsibilty and there are no excuses. more people should be like martha stewart and call it like they see it instead of worrying about people's feelings all the time. people are too sensitive. this is why everyone gets a trophy in school these days.. so no-one's "feelings" get hurt. boohoo. toughen up. jessica lost her dog. it was her fault 100%

I just feel so bad for Jess... she may be ditzy, superficial or whatever... but she absolutely ADORED Daisy... and It is just such a sad incident. And let's face it, hindsight is 20/20... and if Martha has lost a dog recently (don't know much about her in Australia, other than that she went to jail) she should have shown more sympathy. I lost my German Shepard like 6 years ago, and I will never ever forget her, and when anyone loses a pet, I think of my Gypsy girl. And also, Martha and all the other haters could have waited a wee bit longer... I do not agree that Martha said what she said to warn other pet owners... because that could easily have been done without trying to make Jessica feel EVEN worse about her specific circumstance, a simple "please, everyone, remember to watch after your pets closely... accidents can and will happen". But then again... where's the publicity in that?!
