Mel is Still Sorry

Diane Sawyer scored big time by landing the first interview with Mel Gibson since his arrest and anti-Semitic remarks on one super drunk night. He's calling what he said back in July the "stupid rambling of a drunkard." He also said he has not had a drink in 65 days and it sounds like he is counting. Here's more:

"What I need to do to heal myself and to be assuring and allay the fears of others and to heal them if they had any heart wounds from something I may have said," Gibson says. "So, this is the last thing I want to be is that kind of monster."

More of Mel and his interview will be airing on Thursday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 13 on "Good Morning America." Sounds like someone is working on image control. Who will win, Mel or Tom?

puh-lease, alcohol is not a truth serum. if it was, then police would use it for criminals. i think he said some really nasty things, feels badly about it and is trying to make things better. i wish him luck on his road to recovery. alcoholism sucks.

toxxic, sounds like something i did my freshman year of college....i did it on a drunken dare. unluckily for me, the football team was JUST outside jogging around campus. they all got to see my goods. luckily, my shirt was covering my face.

I don’t think he’s racist. First of all, nobody even knows if he truly said it. People have been criticizing Mel ever since he made The Passion. I knew accusations would come out sooner or later. Secondly, people say horrible, untrue things when they are alcoholics. Maybe you guys can’t relate because you don’t have a drinking problem. I don’t, but have seen a good friend struggle with it.

i don't care how sorry he says he is now... someone who's not a racist doesn't start spitting out slurs even when they are drunk... anyone else agree? LizaToad Wed, 10/11/2006 - 7:10am ___________ EXACTLY. I think someone saying they did something they would never do SOLELY because they were drunk, is the lamest excuse possible and also mostly likely a lie. I honestly believe that the things people do and say when they are drinking are usually and indication of who they really are, as opposed to the socially acceptable persona they exude in public. It's not always the case, but pretty probable. That's where "truth serum" comes from....

Nobody blew nothing up Mel only said what he really feels!! Lets be honest how many people have been drunk and made racist comments?? UGH NOT ME! I think he spoke the truth if he didnt get caught no way would he be apologizing

I dislike Mel immensely and have for a very long time. He seems like he is stuck back in the 50's. And that's not a compliment.

i would agree with that if it weren't for mel's history of racist comments... for example, he's said more than once that the Holocaust never happened... hmm...

I don't remember his name, but i do remember he was Jewish, so what a better way to get your name in the papers, he might not be remembered now but he still had his 15 min.

I still think the cop blew things way out of proportion, everybody wants their fifteen minutes

i think he's taking responsibility, he's personally apologized many times. he knows he said something wrong and he feels badly.

Mels a racist and thats it
LizaToad LizaToad 10 years
and saying 'i was drunk' is just an excuse and doesn't show he's taking responsibility

i don't think kayne west's main fan base cares that much about what he says.

I didn't know Kanye was so specific with those types of comments. I agree, I don't think it affected his career at all. I don't think Kanye thinks about his comments that carefully, he just spouts what he thinks at the time and lets it land where it lands. "Like MySpace, only more arrogant"
