NBC plans to censor Madonna

NBC has decided not to air the segment in Madonna's November 22nd concert special that depicts her on a mirrored Crucifix. There is speculation that NBC is bending to the whim of religious groups who threatened to boycott the network if the segment aired. The network, however, refuses to say why they aren't airing the spot. Here's more:

NBC didn't explain its decision, with a spokeswoman saying the network doesn't discuss how its editorial decisions are made. NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly ducked out of an industry function in Los Angeles Thursday before reporters could reach him.

"NBC did the right thing, but the fact that it did not say why the offensive part of Madonna's concert was cut shows cowardice," said Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League.

It's been a tough week for NBC. Hundreds of lay offs and now disappointed Madonna fans. It seems to me that they should change their mascot from a peacock to a chicken. I can't wait to hear what Madonna has to say about this.

At least Madonna didn't get struck like lightning like Jim Caviezel when he played Christ in the Passion of the Christ. He actually got struck by lightning twice filming (go figure, what are the chances? someone obviously doesn't like him upstairs). So tell me which is better - a movie that reenacts how jesus died - or a song that reenacts his ministry?

Maybe people need to see it for themselves before they rush to judgement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NiNNBveTDI

What it all boils down to in the end is how highly Madonna thinks of herself. Her ego is larger than that asteroid they say is going to hit us in 2035. I'm a Christian too, but I'm no religious zealot and frankly couldn't care less what she does during her concerts. Does it offend me? No, because my own faith is what's important. Like Charlize Theron says in "Monster", "I'm good with the Lord." Madonna can strap herself to a king-size bed and have people in the audience punt her with rubber dildos for all I care.

she only does it to offend and to get your attention. if people would just ignore this crap...she'd stop doing it. it doesn't affect my spirituality any. hell she can reenact the stations of the cross in negligee for all i give a shit...

i dont get offended by other people and what they do-- why take it personally that Madonna is crucifying herself?? Thats her own perogative, imo...would i do it? No, because of my christian beliefs... but can she do it? why the fuck not?

I saw this in concert and IMO it's not that serious (and I am Catholic) but I can see how NBC would want to cover their asses

I think the mock crucifixion is every bit as offensive as masturbating on stage. It's just offensive in a different way. Politics, social status, finances...those things seem external to a person, but religion is more internal I think. Maybe that's why people (myself included) take it so personally when it is made fun of or mocked. Just my opinion.

I just want to point out that our government has not censored Madge. Old fashioned economics censored Madge. NBC wants to keep making a profit and so they made a business decision to keep the majority of their fans happy.

Madonna. So cutting edge. So relevant. Oh wait, nevermind, I forgot it's not 1992 anymore. Yawn.

My question would be why put yourself on the cross? There are other ways of showing respect and omage. She's trying to get attention and it's rude and disrespectful.

i'm a christian (i even teach sunday school) but i would have really liked to see this performance. so lame, NBC, this isn't even half as offensive as her previous work. mocking the crucifixtion is old news, get over it and don't watch it if it offends you so darn much.

This old hag would do anything for attention, even if it means mocking someone's religion.

It's ridiculous. In the XXI centure the church still controls the world, specially the media. It's so funny to know that in a country that people claim for democracy, the media is a puppy of the church. hahaha.

im christian too and i agree with seven, the muslims went crazy about them cartoon pics that denmark printed and madonna knowing all this havoc that this caused went ahead and did this crusifixion. Is it because christians dont make such a fuss that she decided to go ahead anyways? I think its absurd and good for NBC not airing this
