Are the New Gossip Girl Ads Crossing the Line?

The Gossip Girl kids have been busy working on their upcoming season and now the show's network wants to psych us up for their September return with steamy new ads that emphasize how naughty the series is. You all thought their OMFG spots were too sexy for a show about teenagers, but tell us — do you think these ads cross the line?

Lighten up, this is hilarious! Can't wait 'til season 2 and Skins is way worse. Now THAT show was too much! I never knew it aired in America though...

i really don't think it's That bad... i mean have you seen the adverts for the show Skins?... i can understand why some people may consider that bad, but i think once you see that this isnt. plus i agree that it is a fair portrayal of alot of young people today (fair enough not all young people but alot), whether you want to believe it or not, it is happening and will continue to happen no matter what the media or anyone does or says. and besides it is aimed at an audience who are old enough to make their own decisions and are aware or sex so its not as if its something shockingly new in the world.

I personally think that they are hilarious :D

I just really don't think its too bad. I picked that maybe they should've went with another approach with advertising for this show. But it doesn't really influence teens to go out and party and have sex. For me, the show just makes me want to find cute outfits like the ones Serena wear. ;P. haha.

The show is NOT that inappropriate!!! it just looks REALLY trashy and bad because of these ads!! But, I still love GG no matter what!!

when a show is bombing in the numbers department, they will do anything to market it. this show will be obsolete in less than a year.

I think the 'mindblowingly inappropriate' comment is kind of funny. Yes, I think it's wrong that these are marketing to younger kids, but then I tell myself that with the way the world is going, kids will be having sex at age 8 when I'm older.

I think the quotes on the posters are hilarious but (1.) the show has never been quite as racy as the posters. (2.) this show is directed to teenagers and it is about teenagers, not adults!!! This is way out of line. P.S. Who is that girl with Chace?

I'm a fan of the show and not a teenager so if thats the target audience than they're doing good. Otherwise, teenagers are already bombarded with explicit things, why do they have to add to it???

These ads make it look like the show is purely about sex. I don't understand why they want to promote how naughty the show is.

I don't know what kind of schools you people went to. This happened but it was not seen as normal at my school. The "loose" kids were looked down upon by students and teachers. Now does this happen is colleges and is seen as a normal part of what goes on today. Is it right? I don't know depends on who you ask. I just know that the gossip girl audience isn't all adults and could influence the younger audience into thinking that this type of sexual behavior is appropriate for their age group.

Yeah, they're inappropriate, but also Sheer. Marketing. Genius. Taking the negative reviews and plastering them over their sexy ad campaign. What better way to get teenagers to watch?
hottinpink9021 hottinpink9021 9 years
Yes I think so considering most people watching it are about 15 years old. I remember back when the O.C was on air and my mom thought the ads for that were inappropriate, but the ones for Gossip Girl are like 10x worse.

I think this is disgusting... wrong age group for this crap.

Meh ... I agree with the comment that they make the show seem steamier than it is. The show's so tame, it's almost boring. Now Skins ... THAT'S a steamy (and too graphic/intense) for me teen drama!!!

I'm 19, and I think this is inappropriate. Parents should know what their kids are watching, but there should be certain standards to what tweens and young teenagers are exposed to. Things like this glamorize casual sex and give kids an unrealistic view of life- that the only thing that happens is shopping and dressing fabulously and backstabbing your enemies.

Granted everything these posters are showing are things that have already happened on GG I believe that advertising them is a little much.

wadewifew, I totally agree too that teen pregnancy is not a good thing... But could it be a result of sex being so "hush hush" and therefore birth control too? What if we had condom dispensers in high schools so kids would not be embarrassed to purchase them at the drugstore? Instead of trying to keep them FROM having sex, we should help them do it responsibly (not in a literal way of course hahaha)

First of all, the ads worked- we are all talking about them! To tell you the truth I thought they were spoof ads at first- they are hilarious!(I think my fave is "mind-blowingly inappropriate"- that's awesome.)I can certainly understand the initial shock at the ads, but let's get off our high horse. I know that I am reponsible for how my daughter behaves, not a television show.

This reminds me of when I was in High School and there was a little show called Beverly Hills 90210 that was so risque about teenagers that hooked up with each other. There have been shows like this all the time. Sure each time they might push the envelope a little bit further but its the same with everything else music, movies etc. They always want to come up with something new and top the last hit.

Personally, I am so burnt out and bored with having sex shoved in my face by American ads and programmes....and I came from America, so I have some basis for comparison. And after 8 years and 3 countries, there's a funny thing I noticed: Its not such a big damn deal in Europe, as it is in the USA, to show a boob or a penis on television. If you make this a big deal, then it gets treated like a big deal.

I am 33 yrs old and I watch this show. My daughter is 11 and I don't watch it when she is around. I wouldn't probably let her watch it until she was 16 or 17, I guess. I don't think it is appropriate for 13 year olds, but maybe I am just jaded, but do they actually have that much sex on this show? Maybe since I watch Weeds and SATC, I am immune, but I don't think it is as racy as these ads would have you believe?
