Yes I think it would be a good idea to explain this stuff to kids and teens! My parents never really had those "talks" with me and I wish they would have just because i found that stuff out through only 1 semester of health class that didn't explain much and only really learned that kind of stuff through friends experiences and what not...It's very important for kids and teens to understand these things so they can make better and miser decisions in the future

I think that it is awesome for Nickelodeon to support Jamie, it's about time some one does! Sex among teens within the nation is increasing... I'm proud of her for taking a bad situation and turning it around, I'm wishing her the best.

OMG I just can't believe it. she is so young i mean she should know better especially cause of what example her sister has given her. maybe she wanted more attention. her career as zoey was really grt i loved that show but after i heard about this i stopped watching it i mean, shes a bad influence to my young sisters and cousin. i just hope that nickelodeon cancels her show i mean why want someone who will bring nick down. many parents would not want there kids to watch that girl. i just can't believe her. she is so irresponsible..

Asia84 and LaLaLaurie06, I totally agree with you. I want to say to JL - being a mother is about SACRIFICE. Putting aside your hopes for a book you are writing because your daughter has an unplanned pregnancy. That's what motherhood is about. Not just "loving babies."

I think Nick should address it, but at a later time so not all of the younger ones are watching it.

You can't make a role model out of TRAILER TRASH... this can definitely back fire on Nick. Fans of the show may think it's cool and OK if Zoey had a kid at 16... This is ridiculous... Her whole family is such trash, I don't want my Nieces looking up to these type of trashy people... I want her show canceled!!!

If there is money involved she will do it... However, I fear that young teenagers are seeing this in a glamorized way.. Look at all the other pregnant, unmarried startlets out there.. they are constantly photographed while they shop... young people today need to know the reality of teenage pregnancy.. and it doesn't involve unlimited amounts of cash.

HartHypnotizer, Brit may have at least done one thing right...she didn't get knocked up at the age of 16!

I dont think the age difference is that big of a deal. When I was 17 I dated a 20 year old...pretty much the same thing. Now if he was anything over 21 or 22 that would start to worry me a little.

I think if they do it right it could be a very good idea. Children absorb what they watch on television. The sad fact is, kids are becoming sexually active alot younger now a days so if you can sneak just a little bit of moral fiber into them while they are still young enough to actually listen, then why not? Its better than alot of the messages that they are getting from, say, MTV. Whoever said MTV would be better fitted to address this issue...that is crazy. MTV PROMOTES sex. I mean, they stick 7 strangers in a house full of booze and just wait until they all start f*cking eachother...(excuse my language) And thats just ONE show, I wont even get into some of the other shows on there. MTV trying to take on this issue would be a JOKE!

yep jillness, because it is a completely different thing. 19 and 16 really isnt much. Now 25 and 16...thats just totally creepy.

I think it is a totally different thing for a 25 year old man to have sex with a 16 year old girl...than a 19 year old boy with a 16 year old girl. They are just way different circumstances. There are too many really bad men out there that could use that jail space to go around procecuting boyfriends that are within 3 years of age (and I heard he is/was 18).
sarah100682 sarah100682 9 years
jillness i couldnt agree more. he is not a criminal. I know in some states, you have to have sex with someone under a certain age in order to get charged with statuatory rape...for example, in VA, it is a child 15 and under....a 16 year old, is perfectly legal.

Catdaddy, I don't think it benefits society at all to take up precious jail space with guys who were just having sex with their girlfriend. If they are in an age range where they could go to school together, I think it is absurd to charge them with rape. Our jails are over flowing, and we need REAL preditors in there...not boyfriends.

PhatE, I was talking about increasing REAL sex education in schools, not about the show on Nickolodeon. (Since 35% of our schools teach abstinence only sex education). I am still on the fence about the show. If a credible journalist give out a lot of facts that would be helpful, but there are also a lot of children who are still to young to hear it.

The show should be cancelled. JL should not be involved in any special regarding teen pregnancy although I think the special is a good idea because it may help parents talk to their kids who are JL/Zooey 101 fans. Any involvement that JL has with the network will send the wrong message, that teen pregnancy is rewarded/glorified. This is not the role model we need for our children. I feel for JL, but keeping her show going will hurt others.

It seems like since she is 16 and he is 19, he should be charged with rape.

"I do NOT think that she should be glorified. The magazine with her smiley face is like, 'Everything will work out great for me!'" AGREED. Glorifying teen pregnancy is NOT the message she or OK! Magazine should be sending. The realities of teen pregnancy are hardly mentioned. Instead they are talking about decorating the nursery and baby names. Ridiculous.

I think that Nickelodeon wouldn't want the public scrutiny and backlash that would accompany making this mistake into an after-school special.
