Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama Deliver Touching Tributes to Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou's friends and family gathered at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, on Saturday to honor the late poet, award-winning author, and civil rights activist. Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, and former President Bill Clinton were among the distinguished guests who paid tribute to Maya, whose death last Wednesday has inspired an outpouring of reactions from celebrities. During one of the most emotional memorial speeches, Oprah described a trying moment when she called her friend and mentor for a "long-distance cry on her shoulder, and she wasn't having it." At times, Oprah fought back tears as she spoke about the impact her "spiritual queen mother" made by sharing her quotable life lessons. Later, Michelle explained what made Maya "one of the greatest spirits the world has ever known." Watch the official Livestream video above to see the memorial for yourself.
