as long as she's making kids happy.

The expression on her face is like...I can't wait to get these horrible, diseased kids off me but I'm going to smile for this free publicity d*mn it! She's so patronizing it's sickening. Imagine the good she could have done by donating the same amount of money to buy HIV/AIDS medicines instead of blowing it all on party just to build her ego?

Ok, as a South African I want to set the record staight. A lot of us here can't stand Paris Hilton and everything she stands for. And while I'm all for ragging on her for this publicity stunt don't have a go at the school. Jakaranda Children's Home is a non-profit school for traumatised kids, the majority of whom are placed there for protection because they going through court cases. In SA when a kid is abused or neglected they are removed to a safe house until their court date while the social worker works their case. This just goes to show that white kids are abused in SA too. So this is not an elite school for the rich. On the upside, I think Paris Hilton is an attention seeking idiot and should have stayed in LA. Good Charlotte was awesome at the Cokefest concert they came out to do though.

If nothing else, it must have been a fun day for the kids. Something different from the normal routine. So Paris did do something good, even though little. But good none the less. I mean she has to start somewhere. Maybe this is just the beginning or more to come. To me, it looks like she has changed from the time before jail. She is no longer a mad party princess who dances on tables. I personally believe ppl can change for the better. Angelina changed, so why can't Paris. By the way, love the pictures. She looks positively lovely.

It's an endearing scene, but Angelina Jolie is more believable than this socialite turned volunteer.

Ok, roor is right, this is a home for disadvantaged and abused children: If I'm wrong I'm always happy to admit it, if she was able to bring some happiness into these poor kids lives then that can only be a good thing, even if it mystifies me why anyone would be happy to be in close proximity to a disease ridden ho. I still think the xeroxed bikini pics were in bad taste and it sounds like these kids would've appreciated some big boxes of toys more than a photocopied picture of a tramp in a bikini, but hey, maybe she made a private donation? :ROTFL: Whatever, as long as she doesn't decide to take one of these poor kids home with her then I guess there's no harm done.

:JAWDROP: :faint: I never thought I'd actually see pictures of Paris in Africa!

btw Ginger we South africans are into celeb culture just as much as you are ;) ... but i still don't see why Paris would think that 3 yr olds would value her signed autograph.

Not to try and justify anything Paris does as an attempt at charity , but this is actually an orphanage, white kids in South Africa are orphans too :true: . But this is still a sad attempt at her "post-jail promise", cos as far as i have read in our local news(i'm south african) Paris didn't do much except visit for 2 hours with the kids - no donations as far as i have heard - unless she counts her autographed pics as a donation and expects the kids to pawn the pics off for some cash :oy: and that pic where she's looking into the camera and patting the boy on the back is so shameless! guess that is why her movie tanked, her acting skills are non-existinent - here she couldn't even pretend to be interested in the kid.

Jenny and Cherry, if you can explain to us all what "good" she's actually doing then maybe we could stop critising, because we're not bashing her for the sake of it, we're genuinely mystified as to what about this stunt constitutes charity! When she puts her hand in her pocket to contribute to something worthy, or spends some undocumented time with people who are genuinely needy, or brings her little camera crew on a tour of the townships, or pops on a hard hat and contributes a few hours of her time helping to build bricks and mortar houses for people who are still living under pieces of corrugated tin, or brings a big bunch of toys and games to an AIDS orphanage then you can let us know. In the meantime save your sanctamonious "at least she's trying to do something" bullsh1t for someone who doesn't think that she's a boil on the butt of humanity. She didn't even pay for her own flight! She's there because it's a convenient photo-op, nothing else. As another poster said, she spends a few hours with some kids and because they're African we're supposed to think it's charity? Please!

She's in Africa because she wanted to be with Benji and she visits a school attended by what looks like well dressed and cared for children. What was the purpose of her visit? I don't get it? :?

That's what I was wondering too tkoblonde. Someone let me know when she starts to do some charity work and maybe then I'll hold the criticism. Signing autographs for kids in Africa is like a bad parody of someone doing charity work. I half expect Ashton Kutcher to pop out from behind her with a video camera.

So, what exactly is the "charity" that she is "preforming"?

Whether or not she's doing a good thing, people still criticize her and say that she's not doing enough charity, etc. Then, when she does, she still gets criticized. I don't get it. Make up your minds people...

She does more than all of us? Really? Good to know. (says the woman who just finished her shift at the local soup kitchen, is planning to go back tomorrow, and is spending part of her Easter dishing out food to the needy and homeless).

So... all she did is sign autographs for kids? And it's supposed to seem philanthropic because they're African? Wow, give me a break world media, this is a wad of total crap. If she wanted to appear to be "helping" others she could've actually volunteered somewhere, like a home for AIDS orphans or a sex-education school (HIV/AIDS is still a major problem and concern in S. Africa)- but instead she deigns to allow a few South African kids to be in her presence? I can't think about this anymore or I'll just be more angry..
this is the first time i actually think she looks pretty.

I find it very hard to believe that Paris does anything altruistic. If she was interested in doing something good for humanity, she would just do it and not worry about if cameras are there or how she looks. Who would want her autograph in the first place?

If only she could stop posing for the camera... I don't think she's all bad, just extremely narcissistic.

All of the pictures look so staged and awkward. Definitely just a publicity stunt.
