Rihanna Opens Up on GMA Saying, "It Can Happen to Anyone"

Rihanna is ready to break her silence, sitting down for her first televised interview since last February's incident with Chris Brown. In the conversation with Diane Sawyer, which will air on GMA this Thursday and 20/20 on Friday, the singer says, "This happened to me. … It can happen to anyone," and calls Brown her first "big love." Rihanna is also one of Glamour's women of the year and will grace one of their December covers. In the article, Rihanna talks about the frenzy surrounding her, "I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn't heard." Rihanna will be honored at an event for the issue next Monday and as she steps back into the spotlight and shows the world her strength telling her side of the story.

@Teena85: This isn't turning a negative into a positive, it's self-exploitation.

I'm glad she's speaking out but I wish she would have done it a long time ago. It's been 9 mos. and most people don't care anymore. She wasted an opportunity to be a strong advocate for domestic violence survivors and to speak out againist violence againist women yet she chose to got to fashion shows and strut around LA & NY instead. Then again I'm sure her record label/handlers told her to wait until the album comes out to talk about the incident.

While I sympathize with her experience, does not one else see how absolutely disgusting this is? Rihanna has had TEN MONTHS to speak out in a manner that would have possibly helped any of her fans in similar relationships, but she stayed quiet. I understood her silence--I don't think she needed to speak. What happened was awful and the public was not owed an explanation on her part. However, staging a tell-all a mere two weeks before her album release? Absolutely disgusting. This just shows that even she isn't above selling-out and tasteless PR tactics.

I'm happy Rihanna is feeling strong enough to speak up about her side now. Whether it has anything to do with her CD coming out who knows. It's just important to talk about it and help other people whether it's Women or Men. I think her words will help someone out there going through the same or worse. I wish her the very best as she goes on with her life having learned some painful yet valuable life lessons.

mommy2one, I've never disagreed with any comment on this site as much as I disagree with your comment. You clearly do not understand domestic violence. I agree with #15. It's like saying someone who was raped asked for it by looking sexy.

im glad she came out about it all and got it off her chest, its been such a talked about topic because she hasnt actually said anything about it. BUT she needs to address the fact hat it was not ALL chris...she was abusive towards him too which provokes these MOST cases, the men are provoked by the women which lead them to "blow up" NOT saying its right but she needs to address that what she did was wrong sp all these people shes wanting to reach out to dont make the same mistakes, its not ok for EITHER person to be abusive! what is up with everyone in love with her style!? i think she dresses hideous, LOVE her music but hate her style

I do applaud her for speaking out- shame its when her new album is coming out.. And honestly. What is wrong with her hair?! She can't think its attractive

Booo, whatever Rihanna. I'm sure it is just a complete coincidence that she is choosing to speaking about her issues with Chris Brown a few weeks before her next album is suppose to drop. I have no respect for people who chooses to use the domestic abuse platform to drum up album sales. Clearing she is not speaking out to help other women but rather to help her pockets.

* we victimize...

i find the whole pray for chris, he needs our help, mentality to be very strange, all this continues to happen when we victimize the perpetrator as someone who is also suffering, when in fact, i think the demonization of the perpetrator would do society much better because it would reinforce the notion that you cannot touch women like this and then go on and apologize and admit you have issues... the only way to help chris brown would be to punish him

It's all very nice that she has finally gotten the guts to talk about it on national tv and tell her side of the story but honestly it's been months and months since this happened and it's getting kind of annoying.

I would like to hear what she has to say...side note: she's such a pretty girl, gorgeous eyes and all but I can't tolerate that hair...I think dark and some form of bangs works the best for her
