Carey Mulligan's Pixie Cut and Sweet, Sexy Interview

Carey Mulligan talked to Susan Sarandon for this month's issue of Interview magazine and posed for a gorgeous cover shoot as well. Carey is gearing up for the release of her next films The Greatest and Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, which are just a few of the projects keeping her busy in Hollywood. Inside the magazine she described the surprise success of An Education, filming in New York with boyfriend Shia LaBeouf, and how she's sure that she's "so done with short hair." Here's more:

  • On adapting for roles: "Since An Education came out, I’ve read so many scripts about short-haired girls who wear Ramones T-shirts who have a kind of quirk factor. Luckily, I’m not restricted when it comes to age. I can play a bit younger but I can also play older, like I did in Never Let Me Go, where my character is 28 by the end of the film. I also don’t look specific—I can change my appearance quite easily just by changing my hair. So I can adapt quite well."
  • On being reserved: "Reserved. . . . Am I reserved? I think I agree with that. I don’t think I’m particularly original. I am quite homey, though. But then I’m also quite transient. I quite like being nomadic."
  • On NY or LA being easier for her and Shia: "I don’t really talk about it, but I think it’s probably easier in New York. In L.A., it’s a little bit harder—especially if you don’t drive, because you’re just more exposed. I didn’t know how to drive until recently, but I just passed my driving test!"
  • On the roles she's interested in: "I don’t think I want to play title roles. I don’t want to be the face on the poster. I don’t want that pressure of having the success riding on my shoulders. I just want to play the most interesting parts. I actually think it’s incredibly rare to get an interesting female character that is the lead in a film."

Bad picture -- it looks like she's smelling her armpit.

I've been a fan of hers since Doctor Who. (definitely the scariest episode I've ever seen.) She looked gorgeous with long hair too. I'm so happy she's come so far.

I actually had no idea who she was either, until my boyfriend told me she was the girl who played a character from a (VERY SCARY) episode of Doctor Who She played Kitty Benet in Pride and Prejudice (2005), too. :) I think she looks best with the pixie cut, personally. Wish I could rock that 'do. Soo cute

this is the best i have ever seen her look. i think she is on the ugly side. she looks much better with long, dark hair but the styling on this shoot is very good...

she's adorable, quite the proper young lady. that haircut is cute but I'm sure not everyone can pull it off like she can.

@jaan, she is not american, she is british girl. She seems so lovely and sweet. If people expect her to be a trainwreck celebrity, I am sorry, she is not that type. She is quite reserved and shy and focused on her work, and thats why I love her. she is a great actress.

um, never heard her speak - is she American? the word "quite" is used quite often lol...first impression is she's a nice, quiet girl trying to do her job and go home at the end of the day, gotta respect that...and I love her with Shia

She seems normal. I like her. Stay quiet, stay "boring" and get a whole heap more respect than a lot of your contemporaries.
