Angelina Jolie Returns From Her Trip to Afghanistan

Angelina Jolie's Changeling hits theaters today — read Buzz's review here — but she missed last night's LA premiere. Instead, she was on her way home from her first-ever trip to Afghanistan as part of her work with UN Human Rights Campaign. Upon her return, Angelina spoke about the area's needs, triumphs, and difficulties, but mostly about the people. Watch a video of Angelina's visit to Afghanistan below. She said:

"The courage, resilience and quiet dignity of returnee families rebuilding their lives against the kind of adversity few of us can imagine shows the human spirit at its best."

Angelina sounds compassionate and well-spoken as always when it comes talking about her work with the UN. While her personal life still causes controversy, her philanthropy and human rights work is so admirable.

as an afghan-american woman, i am appalled to see her there. she needs to go back to hollywood and let the peacekeepers, afghans and aid workers do there job to rebuild my homeland and make it the great country it once was. we don't need hollywood actors there. go home angelina and stay there...

I admire Angelina Jolie...those who dislike her will say whatever they want but her humanitarian work will still look good in my book.

I totally disgaree with people bashing her for this!! Isn't it better that she is doing SOMETHING! It is a lot more than most people do and just because she's filming it etc.doesn't mean it's for her own publicity. If a celebrity can make someone take an interest in a situation then whatever! I don't think it's going to make anyone more interested in her movies. It's better she does this than nothin at all.

I think she is one of rare women in Hollywood who does what she wants and you can write 100 pages, she does not care. She is one strong minded lady!!! She is just not stereotype and brad loves that of her and on the other hand she is so warm and protective of her kids!!!

I don't think Angelina is a saint, an inspiration, or even a very good person, but I do like that a) she has actual talent and can act. she's not some stupid, talentless whore like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, or Lauren Conrad who are just famous for their looks or their antics, and b) that she is going around trying to help in whatever ways she can. I very highly respect that. She's no Mother Teresa, but I do think she really cares. I do, however, agree with PinkPrincess - she needs to be with her kids, raising them and teaching them - it is so important that parents spend as much time as possible with their kids - parents have to take responsibility for teaching their children not only how to do basic things like read, write, etc., but also, and more importantly, how to be a good person...

Why do I keep getting flagged for approval? Grrrr. Here was a portion of what I said, lets see if I get flagged again: I agree with Juicylemon. I commend ANYONE who give to charity, but we are not here to discuss the everyday person. And I don't think Angelina is a saint. I've never been one of those people who say that. Maybe you're confusing every Brad/Angelina fan with

I agree with Juicylemon. I commend ANYONE who give to charity, but we are not here to discuss the everyday person. And I've NEVER said that Angelina is a saint. Maybe some people think that every Angelina fan is Perez Hilton, who dubs her "Santa Angelina" on his website. I like her because she is human and she screws up from time to time, and she admits that. "Right away, that sends a message that those whom cannot afford to donate 30% are unworthy, where AJ should be sainted." It's not that you are "unworthy," its just that I don't see how some people can complain about her giving such a large amount of her income to charity. I'm sure there are many people in the world who make more $$$ than her and give away less. "As for needing mansion(s) ~ yes, I am making that plural, it's amazing how a family of eight can survive in a one or two bedroom apartment in New York." That family may survive, but that does not seem like a healthy environment IMO. I would rather have my own room if my parents could afford it, like Brad and Angelina can.

Ya know, people are being silly about her being a "homewrecker". Maybe she and Brad fell in love on the movie set but did not "do it'. Remember, he pretty much got divorced right away then they were together. people do do this, its real life. Sometime you are married to the wrong person, and you both know it, but you are friends. And then you may meet your soul mate and know exactly what you have to do. Get over it. Clearly Jennifer A., while a nice person she may be, is not that deep....look who she's dating.... I really do believe Jolie when she talks about not cheating because her father cheated. I'm sure she shared this with Brad and they decided to act quickly. People often fall in love without having sex, and people do fall in love even when they are trying not to. She does an incredible job bringing awareness tot refugee issues. I'm sure SHE would agree that she does not do what those unnamed aid workers do, but I'm sure she is doing everything she can to bring attention to the causes these people spend their life working on. such shallow, shallow concerns, a wrecked marriage that is years long dead.

She is one of a kind indeed. She is not afraid to speak and to live like she wants.

Maybe there should be a special section for non-celebs who does charity so nobody feels left out in our recognition...

"Let's just leave it at that and then allow the others who are making a difference with their hands at least one shred of recognition and devotion so many of you give AJ." -- I'm pretty sure that most of us give those people recognition in our daily lives. However, this is PopSugar and Angelina is the topic -- maybe you shouldn't be so surprised that the focus is on her deeds. ;)

Is there a single person on this board that has, or will ever, donate 30% of their income to charity? A single one? ----------- When you are an overpaid actor with millions and millions of dollars coming your way in a yearly income *not including endorsements or any other revenue*, then it's sure a hell of a lot easier to donate 30% of your income to charities. So please do not try to compare her wage to the wages of the average working Canadian or American by asking us to raise our hand if we have done such a thing. Right away, that sends a message that those whom cannot afford to donate 30% are unworthy, where AJ should be sainted. Ridiculous. As for needing mansion(s) ~ yes, I am making that plural, it's amazing how a family of eight can survive in a one or two bedroom apartment in New York. Just sayin'. She and her family have every right to live these overly extravagant lifestyles if they choose to, as they have the means to do so. But don't expect everyone to take her seriously in her quest for the plight of the needy, when there are others who bust their butts every single day helping (taking them away from their families) and don't receive a dime or any recognition for it. She is bringing awareness by using her celebrity? Fine. Great even. Let's just leave it at that and then allow the others who are making a difference with their hands at least one shred of recognition and devotion so many of you give AJ. She is no more worthy then a mother and father working several jobs each just to put dinner on the table for their family, and possibly send them to post-secondary school.

Where do some people get that Angelina's fans think she's a saint? I don't think she's a saint and to this day, I haven't encountered another fan that thinks Angelina is a saint. It is actually quite the opposite - many fans know what Angelina was and did when she was younger; and truthfully I for one don't care as she was not hurting another person only herself. She grew up to be an admirable woman who is a role model to many.

KatiaD, you are not sick of her you are jealous of her lifestyle. This article is not about that it is about giving confort to another life. How outstanding it is to be able to grow and learn. We all could learn from her life experiences. Angelina wrote a book: "Notes From My Travel". It is a journal of what she saw and encountered. The money goes to charity if you choose to buy it and it is a very good read. I guess than you would be doing a very small part of what she has been doing for the past 8 years.

Iam sick of her.I would have believed her charity work if she actually work a day there volunteering.Very hard to believe her star appearance there especialy after touring the world in the most expensive hotels and estates with 100 rooms and 120 servants. So over her,God where is the old Angelina?

Many women and men wouldn't risk their life to those causes and they are young men and women from various armies who have left little children at home for months, years. Even those who think they can manage to handle such missions, most will not succeed psychological tests done before a mission and others will give up after whitnessing the unbearable. I have lost one friend in Burundi years ago. She was passionate and determined to help people in hot spot zones since she was a child. She entered 'doctors without borders' and was killed while trying to help some people in a village and got caught by rebels. 3 out of 7 of her team were killed before one who had a small gun retaliated and the rest escaped before being saved by the government army. My friend, a woman of 28, mothers of 2 was shot dead. One of her colleagues who escaped gave up and still has nightmares and is unable to work properly, the others after a trouble period are still in it in various places of the world. Some women (even those who have small children living in their home country) are tough and dedicated and think the cause is worth risking their life. That's why i have even more respect for those women and men whose compassion and eagerness to fight for honorable causes, helping other women/men who can't escape the nightmare to have a better life for them and their children.

Matt Damon is another celeb that is putting his money and time where his mouth is, I bet if you ask him who inspires him, Angie may very well indeed get an honorable mention, as well as Bono, Clooney and Cheadle. This is what it should be about, not that petty BS

hey Mrs Albert, your life has not been front page news since you were 21? Surely you have been in a situation where possibly you were in some type of conflict and maybe you were portrayed a certain way in your personal life that may or not have been accurate? I honestly can not even believe that people are still "mad " at her for what went down with Brad and Jen. I think it is crazy that no matter how many great years of prosperity later, people still act like they are friends with Jen and can not admit Angie has really blossomed into one hell of a woman. She is always helping others, rather it be her own family or kids that are not hers. She does not put laying out or jogging in her priority list. Maybe that is why she looks tired sometimes, where Jen is all about being physically perfect.

pink, the twins are already three months old and Angelina was gone for only 2 days tops. I think Brad was probably at home with the kids. I agree with you about going to a "dangerous" country...I don't think I could risk my life that way if I had as many kids as she has.

Katya actually i just went back to work a month ago, i would never leave my infant twins to go to another country with so much hate against Americans, that's just me. Angelina can donate and bring awareness to where ever and to whomever, if i had her money and fame id donate more and bring awareness PROBABLY ONLY MEXICO, so it doesn't matter where or to who you donate to as long as you do there are so many less fortunate all over that need help.
