Tina Fey Accepts Comedy's Highest Honor With Friends From 30 Rock and SNL

Tina Fey stuck with her husband Jeff Richmond last night on her way in to accept the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the nation's most prestigious recognition of comedic talent, in Washington DC. She's the third female, including Whoopi Goldberg and Lily Tomlin, to receive the prize, and at 40, Tina is also the youngest. Tina humbly said she had set her sights on the more attainable goal of winning "the Judy Blume Prize for awkward puberty or the Harper Lee Prize for small bodies of work." Many friends from Tina's life turned out to support her achievement, including her former SNL pals like Amy Poehler, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and Fred Armisen. The 30 Rock crew was well represented with Alec Baldwin and Jon Hamm, who posed with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt. Tina's Date Night costar Steve Carell also attended, as did Betty White. The proceedings almost turned into a good-natured roast, with Tina's friends taking the stage to comment on her career. They said:

  • Alec on Tina: "Tina, well that's a funny name for a man," he said, shocked to hear it was a woman who had won because "their brains aren't shaped right."
  • Steve on his past with Tina: "As a side note, Tina and I dated briefly in Chicago. . . We went to the Spaghetti Factory. I was extremely sorry when she had to leave early." He looked to the audience and added, "I hope her cat is feeling better."
  • Amy to Tina about the whole event "I am so honored to be able to attend your comedy Bat Mitzvah. The food has been good so far, and your Evita theme seems to be working."
