Mary-Kate Olsen Tells Marie Claire She "Wouldn't Wish Her Upbringing on Anyone"

Mary-Kate Olsen has not one, but two covers for September's Marie Claire — which one do you like best? She's in the midst of spending a fun Summer with her sister Ashley, making the party rounds, going on dates, and chilling in the Big Apple. Both Mary-Kate and Ashley are looking forward to showing off their latest designs during Fashion Week, and MKO opened up to the magazine about her passion for clothing. She also spoke about losing her friend Heath Ledger and how she feels about having been a child actor. Mary-Kate said:

  • On growing up as a child actress: "I look at old photos of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all . . . I would never wish my upbringing on anyone . . . "
  • On her friend Heath's death: "I think it's really important to be able to talk when something's wrong. I learned at a really young age that if you don't talk about it, it can drive you insane."
  • On her passions: "I still read scripts, and if something great comes along, that's great . . . but this is my day job. The Row is where I go every day."

MK seems troubled by her past despite the fame and fortune. But I guess everyone has their own set of problems. I have always love the Olsen's style, very druggie chic.

Agree w/ you gatsby-esque! She has the life she has today because of that childhood. Yes, it probably was quite weird and difficult at times, but lots of normal people have childhoods that aren't that great, and they don't get rich from it!

I love Mary Kate - always have, always will. I saw her on David Letterman a few years ago, and even though she usually looks serious in pictures, she's actually very funny and charming.

'"I would never wish my upbringing on anyone." Please! Your upbringing allowed you to be where you are today and got you your fashion line and your multi-million dollar business so you can traipse around in your designer clothes and look all pissed off at the world everyday.' Ya know, she is currently happy and successful, but not all and many child stars don't make it out of the business in the same way and I'm sure MK is smart enough to realize this. Money can't buy you happiness and when you consider that her bouts with Anorexia, which are possibly linked to her upbringing, could have killed her, money is nothing. Obviously her upbringing wasn't the worse possible one ever, but it doesn't mean it was positive either and something she'd recommend.

I look at old photos of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all. Well, MK, we have that in common. I see photos of me from middle school and I don't feel connected to that person. Same with my baby pictures! No connection !

Why is this girl constantly draping herself in animals carcasses? It's gross, and so is she.

Remember, Mary-Kate, you started out as baby/child actor on a sitcom...you're really nothing special. The Olsen Twins and their ungrateful, sourpuss attitudes annoy the sh*t out of me.

"I would never wish my upbringing on anyone", those are some strong words and it makes you think about what she went through as a child star. It must have been rough for her, but what about her sister? Does her sister feel the same way too?
