Meryl Streep Has Basically Always Been the Best Thing About the Oscars

Feb 26 2017 - 4:00am

Meryl Streep [1] continued her reign as queen of the Oscars this month when she received her 20th nomination [2] for her role in this year's Florence Foster Jenkins. Meryl, who has taken home three golden statues, first attended the Academy Awards in 1979 and has been a veritable staple at the ceremony ever since. Even when she's not being celebrated for a performance [3], Meryl still manages to steal the show, whether she's wearing a showstopping outfit [4] or snapping an unforgettable group selfie [5] with her fellow A-listers. Keep reading to see a retrospective of Meryl's memorable Academy Awards appearances over the years, and be sure to check out sweet photos of her and her longtime love, husband Don Gummer [6].

But whatever."

2013

Meryl shared a heartfelt moment with best actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis as she presented him with his Oscar for Lincoln in 2013.

2014

Meryl's night at the 2014 Oscars was a big one. She didn't take home the best actress award — she was nominated for her role in August: Osage County — but she still had a blast; not only did Meryl jump in to host Ellen DeGeneres's epic selfie [12] and grab a few slices of free pizza, but she also got down with her bad self [13] during Pharrell Williams's performance of "Happy." It was an amazing reminder that win or lose, Meryl's just there to have fun.

2015

Meryl walked the red carpet looking like a goddess (as usual), and though she lost in her category, she didn't really seem to care. Instead, she snapped selfies with Jennifer Lopez, Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood [15] and cheered wildly during Patricia Arquette's emotionally-charged acceptance speech [16]. Needless to say, Meryl's 2015 Oscars night was as regal as ever.
