This is not exactly a story about a circus in the 1930's. It is supposed to be a story that takes place in the 1930's Depression era wherein a young man, by an unfortunate twist of fate, ends up working as a vet for a traveling circus after he loses everything he thought he had in life. The young man may be traveling with a circus but it is more about his life and how the people (and animals) that he meets during his time with the circus impact him and the direction his life takes as a result. It is a very good story, essentially about family and how family doesn't have to be blood and also that regardless of the tragedies that you suffer in life there are people (and even animals) out there that can impact your life for the better and help you along the journey that is life. Life is hard and just when you think you have nothing there are things that can happen that can help you through. At least that is my take on it. I would recommend reading the book and seeing this movie. I wouldn't just dismiss it because it happens to involve a circus. It is about so much more than a circus.
