Ryan Gosling gave his best sexy stare for the January 2011 cover of GQ, shot by Mario Testino. The actor, who has been busy tirelessly promoting Blue Valentine by attending screenings and luncheons with costar Michelle Williams, received the good news this morning that his performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination — make sure to check out the full list! This morning, he reacted to the honor by saying, "I am very grateful to the HFPA. I also would like to thank them for acknowledging Michelle Williams for her incredible performance. Without the 12 years of director Derek Cianfrance's unwavering vision and commitment none of this would have been possible. I share this nomination with both of them." He's also in the midst of a hot end-of-year romance with Blake Lively, and it turns out her Gossip Girl mom, Kelly Rutherford, thinks they make a great couple. It appears that Ryan's still adjusting to the spotlight, though, as he opened up in the magazine about gracefully dealing with attention and trying to keep it real in Hollywood. He said:
- On his mom: "My mother still believes in Santa Claus. We tried to break it to her once, but she wasn't having it. There are very few believers in the world, but my mother is one of them. I don't know if she'd admit that this is why she does it, but it's just more fun to believe in Santa than not to."
- On why he took a job at a Hollywood deli: "I'd never had a real job . . . The problem with Hollywood is that nobody works. They have meals. They go to Pilates. But it's not enough. So they do drugs. If everybody had a pile of rocks in their backyard and spent every day moving them from one side of the yard to the other, it would be a much happier place.'"
- On not being at ease with his success: "Look, this is crazy. I don't understand how I'm here, living this life, wearing this suit. I assume I'm going to pay for it someday . . . And that's okay. It seems fair to me. I just want to be ready for it. I want to meet it like a gentleman."
