All the Details on Princess Charlotte's Extraspecial Christening

Jul 1 2015 - 4:45am

Princess Charlotte is only about 8 weeks old, but time is already flying by! In early June, Kensington Palace revealed details [1] about the little royal's first major event: her christening. The special christening will take place on July 5 [2] at St. Mary Magdalene's Church on Queen Elizabeth II's Sandringham estate. The Archbishop of Canterbury, who baptized Prince George in October 2013, will also conduct the ceremony.

While every christening is a special event in its own right, Princess Charlotte's holds even more meaning because it will be held at the same church where her late grandmother, Princess Diana, was baptized. The heartwarming tribute comes just a few weeks after it was revealed that the baby's name has a special connection to Diana [3] and her brother, Charles Spencer.

The world will have to wait for the big day to see specific details, but Charlotte is expected to wear the same traditional christening gown that George and other royals have worn in the past. The dress is a replica of one commissioned by Queen Victoria in the 19th century. For the service, the royals will also take the famous silver-gilt Lily Font [4], which has been used in almost every royal baptism. And if you can't wait until July 5 for more royal madness, relive Charlotte's first public appearance in GIFs [5], then check out 14 life lessons that George could teach his little sister [6].
