Scarlett is Not Slutty

Sexy Scarlett just proved once again she is not like the other starlets. The actress wants us to know she is not promiscuous, even though people think she is. Now she has publicly addressed these slutty rumors. Here's more:

"There does seem to be a mistaken belief out there that I am sexually available somehow — which is not to say that I'm not open-minded about sex," she continues. "Yet I wouldn't say I'm a serial monogamist, either. I mean, I went through periods of time when I was, ah, single. But when I'm in a relationship, I'm in a relationship."

"I do think on some basic level we are animals, and by instinct we kind of breed accordingly," she says. "But as much as I believe that, I work really hard when I'm in a relationship to make it work in a monogamous way."

Johansson also encourages testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

"I get tested for HIV twice a year. ... One has to be socially aware," she says. "It's part of being a decent human, to be tested for STDs. It's just disgusting behavior when people don't. It's so irresponsible."

I think what she's trying to say is that just because she's the Sexiest Woman Alive and likes to pose naked with other women, doesn't mean she likes to sleep around. She's a good girl at heart, or at least she wants us to think she is!

It's too weird. Not sexually available, but getting tested twice a year? I think she shoulda said, "I get pap smears to test for cervicle cancer", not STDs. I'm married and don't need to get tested for STDs, but I do get tested for cervicle cancer. (the STD part is part of the process, but not why I go). Sorry if that's TMI. Scarlett should think before she speaks. Oh yeah, earlier in the article she talks about other celebrities that talk about thier bulimia, then she talks about STDs a paragraph later?!!!!

Imabeliever- I know not every one takes monogamy seriously. However, as people mentioned earlier, if you can't trust your partner, you need to look at that and probably exit the relationship. If I felt like I couldn't trust my husband, I wouldn't be in the relationship. I say get tested for everything across the board when you decide to be mutually monogomous, but I would still recommend using protection for a while, because some things to take a while to show up. If you think you were exposed to HIV, you need to get tested every six months for two years after the potential exposure. After two years, you're in the clear, provided you haven't been continually exposed. I just don't think you're in a good place if you feel like you need to get tested that frequently. From where is this perceived risk coming?

veronica.. a recent study showed that people were contracting STD's from their partner even though they thought they were in a monogamous relationship. No matter how much you trust the other person..can you trust the person(s) they slept with before you or who they might have cheated on you with? Unless you are an untouched virgin marrying another untouched virgin..then it may be safe to say you may want to be tested and then tested again since something take time to show up. I think that is all she is saying. Its a crazy world.

So, here's my opinion. Getting tested for STDs/HIV= reactive. Only having sex inside a monogomous relationship (dare I say it: marriage?!?!?!?!)= proactive. Getting tested is wonderful and responsible, and everyone who has sex should do it. BUT if you are so worried that you might have contracted something, maybe you should look at the behaviors that are causing that fear, as well as getting tested. Know what I'm saying? In other words, it truly is responsible that she is getting tested, but she (and everyone else in that situation) should also have responsible sexual behavior that cuts down on the risk of contracting something. Oh, and you can pee at can't catch STDs from a toilet seat...seriously. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.....

exactly, JK.... and why is everyone here dogging on her when she's being responsible and there are so many people who don't bother getting tested? those are the people who i'm worried about.

I like Scarlett, she's pretty and talented, but I think she's trying too hard lately. I agree theres alot of double standards about sex and men and women. But there's also alot of double standars with actors. Scarjo is tested because she is smart, but alot of others would just be deemed a slut. "Like MySpace, only more arrogant"

where did this slutty tag come from anyway?

Scarlett is one amazing woman, She beautiful and talented. There are many women out there that slut around and don't take any responsibilities, I am glad that she opened up on this, hopefully many other women who "samantha" around, will be responsible lovers.

I dont think theres nothing wrong with being tested 2x a year. desnt mean shes sleeping around, maybe she just likes the comfort in knowing she is safe. I've been with my BF for almost 5 years now and I get tested every year by my GYN.

she does sound very responsible for her age and its good thats shes not afraid to admit that she does get tested. Id rather her be cautious than not be, because people admire and copy her

First off everyone should get a HIV test if they are going to have sex. After that, I heard that a person should get an HIV test if they think their at risk, for whatever reason it may be. Then get another test 3 or 6 (?) months later because, the virus may not show up on the first test. Then you go back again 3 or 6 (?) months later for another test. I think this goes on for a whole year or 2, maybe 3. To make sure that they are okay. Haven't you all heard of this? Police go through this when someone stabs them w/ a needle.

I'm all for being in a happy, monogamist relantionship - but it's kind of archaic to label women who have sex with more than one guy, "sluts". i have had plenty of sex without being in a relantionship and would never think of myself as slutty. men have lots of sex as well and aren't never looked down upon and not all sex should be for love! also getting tested is awesome and responsible no matter how many partners you have been with.
Imabeliever Imabeliever 10 years is probably wise of her since the statistics of STD is something like 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 and most are transmitted by a partner who you believe is faithful and she and that current partner are currently actors which raises that stakes even while shockingly often probably very wise.

Why would she need TWO hiv tests per year if she's not having multiple partners? That seems excessive, and basically invalidates her whole claim as far as I'm concerned.

I totally agree with her... Even though she is personified as such a person, who she is inside and in her private world is pretty different all together. She seems socially responsible and the fact that she gets tested for STD's twice a year possibly regardless if her relationship status, one can never be too sure. You have to look out for number one and of course the ones that you love. She seems pretty awesome..

i love her to death, but sometimes she tries way too hard to sound smart. she always says she wants to be remembered for her breain & not just her body...but sometimes she just ends up sounding dumb. But it is good that she is publicly advocating testing. HIV is something that younger generations seems kinda blasse about now. It doesn't seem as scary as it used to, what with all the new drugs that have been developed & the girls who look up to her need to hear these things...

WOW. I really can't believe some of you. Getting tested repeatedly for HIV does NOT make you a slut!!!!! I really can't believe, in this day and age, that people will actually make such degrading assumptions just because someone is being responsible for their health, and the health of the people in their lives. We have so MANY problems because people don't get tested enough. People are dying. Get over yourselves, and stop judging someone because they are cautious. If everyone was as responsible as her, then disease wouldn't be killing millions of people every day.

If she's not slutty, why the HIV testing twice a year? That's a little bizarre. But I love her even if she is a skank. They probably have to get tested for movie insurance purposes. I bet it's not voluntary.
