Sam Simon, the cocreator of The Simpsons, has turned a horrible diagnosis into something beautiful. Two years ago, Sam was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer and was given a prognosis of three to six months. Instead of shying away from the spotlight, Sam has spent the past two years working to give his multimillion-dollar fortune to charity [1].
Sam spoke to Maria Shriver in an interview for NBC about his experience, stating, "They showed me my scans and said these are the scans of a dead man." But Sam says that despite undergoing grueling treatments, he has never been happier. Sam has chosen to donate his fortune to a number of institutions, including his own animal-centered charity, The Sam Simon Foundation [2]; PETA [3]; Save the Children [4]; and Feeding Families [5].
