Sugar Bits - Oprah Is The Highest Paid TV Star

  • Oprah Winfrey has topped the list of TV Guide's highest paid television stars. That's to be expected, but the list did have quite a few surprises. - BuzzSugar
  • Singer Etta James has been hospitalized due to complications after having abdominal surgery last month. We wish her a speedy recovery. - Reuters
  • Mindy McCready was arrested again in Nashville yesterday for violating her probation and the judge has refused to set bail. Some people never learn. - TMZ
  • Supposedly Tyra banks moved her show to NYC because she landed herself a Wall Street banker named John Utendahl. Not that she needs a sugar daddy. - Gatecrasher
  • An announcement about the new co-hosts of The View will be made any day now, and it is most likely that 2 of the 3 potential candidates (Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Griffin & Sherry Shepherd) will be chosen. The real question is, can new hosts save this dying show? - Page Six

I used to watch The View all of the time when it first started but now I only tape it when there is a guest on the show that I like. I bought one of Mindy McCready's tapes (yes, tape) but don't think I ever listened to it. :ROTFL:

LorenAshley - I agree with you. Bob Johnson is the first black male billionaire and I have never heard of any charitable work he's done in or out of the country, but no one questions it. Oprah being a billionaire is not heartbreaking - she worked really hard for what she has. To go from living in a house with no electricity as a child to being a billionaire and the woman she is today is amazing. I don't fault any person for being extremely wealthy, especially someone who inspires millions of people and gives so much.

-I really am indifferent about Oprah BUT I do feel that it is unvalidated and obscene for anyone to make that much money. Its it unnecessary and heartbreaking that she has all that money, yes she does do some good with it and that is commendable but overall the last thing this world needs is another billionaire. She should be giving away a lot more then she does but then again there are some people who don't give sh*t way, just my 2 cents. -I hope Etta gets better she is one of my favs. -I could care less about the view they all seem like a bunch of cynical, overrated woman with nothing better to do then talk sh*t about people they are most likely jealous of. I cant stand cattiness and it obviously runs deep on the set of that show. -Tyra is whack and beyond annoying, girlfriend just does not know when to STFU. Seriously.

tatti back home on tv there were 6 german channels and even though I could only catch a word here and there i still loved watching them lol and in Italy i loved their afternoon talk shows. No self help, or get rich schemes just good ol fashioned DRAMA.

I vote for Sherry Shepard to be the next co-host on The View!! Whoopi would be my 2nd pick, but please don't put Kathy on!!! The girl had way to much botox in her face to freeze a polar bear!!

also, no one ever talks about bob johnson. the man who founded BET. i NEVER hear anything about him being charitable. he might be but i hear nothing about it. it's only a big deal cause it's oprah and bob johnson is not as famous as she. and she's also a woman and women tend to get super jealous of other women who are more successful than they are.

oprah promotes oprah because OPRAH (the name) makes tons of money. That money then goes to help people. Bill Gates is worth about 36 Bill, he can give until his head falls off.

I used to work for Tyra's new boyfriend! Ha. They make a good pair.

Ashkell, why not start where Angelina gives....1/3 of her salary. Or perhaps Bill Gates who gives tons more then Oprah. In fact, the majority of his estate, upon his death, goes to charity. Even Rosie O'Donnell...she gives enormous amounts of money without the press. Oprah promotes Oprah. Now I have to leave for the day...have a nice one.

ashkeli..i totally agree. oprah is NOT racist. she gives more money than many other people, some who are way richer than she. people love to complain about everything, the woman has help raise SOOOO much money for katrina victims. her angel network has build many homes. she has done better than this that thing we call a government. as for the school in Africa. I doubt she is done building schools. she went over to one country in africa and gave the kids money, school clothes, food for month and plenty of other stuff. you people are acting like she needs to rescue the whole damn world. she is only one person. one thing at a time people.

Anything that gives me more Kathy Griffen is good for me, I LOVE LOVE LOVE her.

Yes, she is a billionaire. But how much do you think she should give in order to satisfy people? Compared to other billionaires and extremely wealthy (ie CEO's of fortune 500's,celebrities) people in this country - - she gives a lot more than them.

oh really! ah! I didnt know that it was the most developed country on the African continent. i feel like it is something nice that she is doing for those young girls..but again, as you know where is it most needed? I dont know sometimes...I would say I would rather see Oprah do this..than Paris & her "charity" I don't watch oprah either..actually I only watch Spanish talk shows..and those are super drama..i feel like I'm watching Jerry Springer :ROTFL: that always gives me a good laugh.. but I feel like I opened a can of worms :OY:
nyaradzom2001 nyaradzom2001 10 years
oh no ain't no problem tatti. I was just pointing out how it seems like she's helping in Africa when it's oonly one country and the most developed on is AFrica at that lol. And I don't watch any talk show, they are just the same recycled load of crap about how we can make our lives better.

Ashkell..oh and BTW...let us not forget Oprah is a BILLIONAIRE. That.Is.All.

my bad nyara...i didn't know which african country..maybe I should have kept my mouth shut & not mentioned it..thanks for correcting me though..

ashkell, perhaps but it is other people's money she is raising. Compared to her income, what she personally gives out of her pocket is nothing compared to what she could give. Not saying that fundraising for good causes is bad because it isn't. I'm saying she could give a whole lot more out of her pocket. She makes crazy insane amounts of money. That is my point. Plus the fact that I can't stand her.

I lived in Chicago in the early 80's when nobody knew who Oprah was...and I mean nobody. She had her first local show. She was grossly morbidly obese, her teeth were jacked up, wigs...she looked like a 50 year old woman back then. She made it big. I say big deal. She is still that insecure fat lady, not saying she doesn't have a brain or a heart but she cares mostly about Oprah. Watch her blow up again, weight-wise. Honestly, I don't see her as truly happy inside. I just don't.
ashkell ashkell 10 years
Oprah only gives "teeny tiny" amounts away? The woman has donated and helped raise MILLIONS of dollars over the years. And how is opening a school in South Africa, helping Katrina survivors, helping send over 200 men to college, raising 50+ million in her Angel Network only promoting her? These days it seems like your damned if you do, damned if you don't. I think it's fine if people personally do not like Oprah's show, but to rag on her philanthropy sucks in my opinion.
