Obama won, pretty obviously, but McCain put a good fight. He did stick to twisted ad half truths though. One example is Bill Ayres claiming he wanted to bomb more. That is not true, it is a myth that came from a quote of Ayres saying "he did not do enough"- if you read the interview, it is very clear that he is referring to us as a society against the war in Vietnam. This man is a professor, and respected by many, he even was one of the Chicago citizens of the year in 1997. Obama is an intellectual, and intellectuals mingle with all kinds of people, which is the best way to make sure you have a sophisticated point of view and an open mind. It bothers me that with statements like these, McCain is appealing to the uneducated and simple intellects of this country. And that is what he did last night. Idem with the "pro abortion" shenanigans, and the Iranian president (can't spell his name).

Wow on the news from Portland. Usually find P-town to be more progressive. I did read this collection from Yahoo earlier re: who won. Mostly Obama:

I don't live there Glad, but I live in Vancouver WA and ALL the news we receive, radio, television etc comes out of Portland, OR. I believe he is the senator there, but I don't know too much about him.

Is that Oregon where the dimmest of dim, Republican Gordon Smith, is one of your Senators?

Been listening to commentators on this all morning, and so far I havne't heard ONE give the debate as a win to Obama. SOME have called it a tie and others call it a win for McCain, but NO one yet has called it a win for BO. (At least not here, and believe me, you don't get much more liberal than Oregon)

I can relate to a calm demeanor, makes me feel like even if we disagree he won't shout at me or bang on the table. Or interrupt. And I wouldn't respond calmly or with trust to someone who misquotes facts or figures or replaces them with stories of people unrelated to out negotiations. If I were someone in business or the leader of a foreign country who had to negotiate... I would chose Senator Obama.
