Couples Can't Contain Their Happiness Over Marriage Equality Strides

Oct 6 2014 - 3:30pm

On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected appeals from five states [1] that challenged the legalization of same-sex marriage, marking major strides for gay rights. The five states involved are Virginia, Oklahoma, Utah, Wisconsin, and Indiana, and in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision, same-sex couples were seen getting marriage licenses in both Virginia and Utah. Other states will be impacted by the news, too, as it paves the way for six other states that are affected by lower courts' jurisdiction, including Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. If things go as expected in all 11 states, the total number of US states to have legalized same-sex marriage will rise to 30. Take a look at all the action in Washington DC, Utah, and Virginia below.
