Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon 2013

President Obama Pardons the Winner of the Turkey Hunger Games

Popcorn has been victorious in the first annual Thanksgiving Turkey Hunger Games. Today, President Barack Obama pardoned the bird after putting the choice up to a vote. Popcorn was the clear victor over his rival Caramel, and America's commander in chief pronounced, "With the power vested in me, I grant Popcorn full reprieve from a future of stuffing and cranberry sauce." Don't worry, Caramel fans. Obama added: "Just for the heck of it, I’m giving Caramel a break and pardoning him, too."

The president, joined by his daughters, also took the chance to crack some jokes, which were also posted on Twitter.
