Video of Beyonce Singing "At Last" For the Obamas' First Dance

Beyonce Sings "At Last" For the Obamas' First Dance — Perfectly Touching or Too Predictable?

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama must have been tired after the whirlwind day, but tonight they made the rounds from one ball to the next until late into the evening. Michelle looked absolutely stunning in her Jason Wu gown while President Obama was handsome as ever. Beyonce took to the mic to sing "At Last" for the Obamas' first dance of the night. Even Beyonce couldn't hold back her tears and there is so much love between the new first couple, but the choice of singer and song might have been playing it too safe. So watch below and tell us, Beyonce performing for President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama's first dance — perfectly touching or too predictable?

I'm in agreement with chatondeneige, cotedazur, PinkNC , and Lily Inferno. I have always liked "At Last" but Beyonce doesn't do the song justice, even though B did show restraint and it wasn't like she is at other times (which is one reason people may have liked it) and also I do think it was too easy a choice...she just made "Cadillac Records" and choose that song, it was more like a plug for her movie. Whether it was done on purpose or not I still (also) think it's shameful. I think when people talk about taking a risk they don't mean some "booty shaking song" just more personal and universal...not an anniversary song or Vday song...celebratory but still for the personal for the Obamas. Like I said I like the song but I don't care for Beyonce, I wish they had gone with someone else. All that aside I love to see Pres. Obama and his first lady together, they are lovely. Oh and yes, the emphasis on the celebrities was annoying! They have every right to be interested and to go but it isn't all about them, so that did get to me...it's like the entertainment outlets really want to commoditize the event and use it as one more thing for Hollywood and their outlets. Grrr....

some people on here are so entertaining and amusing with their hate-filled comments. i find it hilarious! the moment was perfect. beyonce looked and sounded great and the obamas looked very much in love and beautiful.

I couldn't care less about Beyonce or her crappy versions of other people's songs...which is the only thing her fake ass knows how to sing. She's never been original at all. Beyonce takes from other people. I know the song is from her movie but I still don't care to hear her sing...ANYWHERE! Barack and Michelle looked fabulous and loving as always though.

I thought it was beautiful and perfect.

I won't even watch this video again because first time I did, I started sobbing furiously, it was that beautiful. Just perfect.

I think the song is perfectly appropriate for a couple's first dance, but I think Beyonce mangled it. Also, I agree with everyone that asked what all these celebrities were doing there. It's a presidential inauguration, a moment that's supposed to emphasize democracy and the equality of all citizens... instead the whole day just became a series of elitist balls that you have to be famous to get into.

shantejam, I know what the song means, but that doesn't mean it can't be an anthem for something else. I don't get the rude people on these posts!!!!!!

a lot of the bitter comments made on here are really ridiculous. on topic: I loved the song, the dress, the whole moment was beautiful, completely perfect.

I thought it was a nice song and I developed a new respect for Beyonce after watching her heartfelt interview after the performance.

Great song but really Beyonce? She doesn't hold a candle to Etta James. Her performance of this song was disappointing.

I liked it. Yeah, it was predictable, but it was good. I just can't understand for the life of me why Beyonce didn't wear a bra!!!!!

I think it was a sweet choice of song. It was a ball people - a time of celebration - relax. Beyonce actually sounded nice singing at the event. Obama and Michelle looked radiant and wonderful!

The first dance was beautiful and the song/singer moving. However, when did the inauguration turn into a celeb convention?

Personally I thought the song was appropriate, lovely, and well done. And, I did tear up - the human race (this isn't just an American thing!) has always looked upon Anyone with different backgrounds/culture/color with distrust and we have consistently historically resisted integration. The image of them dancing was overwhelming beautiful to me, not because of some idol or savior I hope him to be, but the fact we have our first black president shows we ourselves are becoming better people.... maybe it means we have the moxy to save ourselves...

Some of the people on this site are becoming way too blatantly combative for my taste. I wish they would stop trying to create pointless fights. This song has nothing to do with the color of his skin and nothing to do with his policies. The ball was merely a celebration of his achievements and well-wishing for our country as a whole. We embark on 4 years of something never seen before in our country's history. In a time of such misery, it was a celebration of hope.

'At Last' is actually my favorite song and I walked down at my wedding to it, so I can never hate anything that has to do with it. Beyonce sang it pretty well, although no one could ever sing it like Etta James! No tears in my eyes though.

Brilliant. I had tears in my eyes- and I'm not even American :)

I don't know if the song "At Last" was chosen to say at least there is a black president... I thought it meant, at last we have taken a significant step in racial equality. I'm sure in ways that total equality isn't yet a reality, but this is just another piece in the puzzle. Maybe it'll be my grandchildren or great grandchildren who will be born into a more ethnically/religiously tolerant society. I don't know. I'm just hoping.
