Waka Flocka Flame managed to upstage the American Music Awards [1] on Sunday night when his new commercial for Pine Bros. throat lozenges aired during the award show. The spot features the pot-loving rapper [2] surrounded in a cloud of smoke and extolling the virtues of the throat drops to aid against minor throat discomfort. Of course, the clincher is at the end of the 30-second ad, when the rapper shoots a knowing glance to the source of the smoke and says, "So the next time you need sore throat relief — for whatever reason — take your Pine Bros." The ad quickly went viral, in part due to the sheer randomness of Waka starring in a throat drops ad and the wink-wink allusions to smoking pot. In short, it looked more like a parody commercial from Saturday Night Live [3] than a real ad. But then again, it did get everyone talking, so maybe Waka did his part.
