Agree about Squid & Whale. 1. A Mighty Heart - equally because of the story & Angelina. 2. Sicko - love Michael Moore's exposes. 3. 11th Hour - because I hope it has as much impact as An Inconvenient Truth. 4. Blueberry Nights - Wong War Kai, Norah Jones, Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman. Yeah, seems ratio of good movies to bad isn't very high. Last year was outstanding -- tour de force acting: Last King of Scotland, Half Nelson, the Queen a riot: Devil Takes Prada, Borat, Happy Feet, For Your Consideration, Thank You For Smoking, Little Miss Sunshine When the Levees Broke, Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men, The Trials of Darrryl Hunt, Road to Guantanamo, Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of Our Fathers, Army of Shadows, Prairie Home Companion, Lives of Others, Inside Man, 12 and Holding, Quinceanera, The Painted Veil, Wristcutters: A Love Story, Infamous, Bubble, Old Joy. haven't seen yet: United 93, Little Children, Dreamgirls, Departed (I saw the totally perfect Hong Kong original and I can't get myself to see the remake).

Skinny Fat -- sorry to disappoint, but Troy did not bomb. It had a production budget of $150M plus $45M for advertising, but it grossed nearly $500M worldwide.

Well yea, believe me I Understand that there are FAR more horrible movies than good. I too am a Big movie watcher and I've seen some real bad ones, But like CatarinaBella said, Pan's Labarynth? Awesome! little miss sunshine, the pursuit of happyness, crash etc etc. What I meant about the truth of things is that they can show things as they really are, like my example, no need to sleep in separate beds, heck let's have a movie about 2 men in love. I just think that a lot of people are trying to make movies that make people think and wonder. There's plenty of big budget blunders, but with the amount of them made, for every 1 good there's at least 100 bad.

I'm curious to see how Norah does with her acting. The girl's gorgeous with musical talent - if she can act too, I'll either love her even more or decide to despise her out of pure jealousy. :)

yeah, CatarinaBella, add to the dreaded sequel all those awfulmovies based on old TV shows (Bewitched) and cartoons (Flinstones)and don't get me started on the remakes

sorry for the caps! And I meant about the churning out crap, they want to capitalize on any success they have ad nauseum...then very rarely does a movie like Pan's Labyrinh (which I love!0 get the attention it deserves

I understand what you're saying Renees3 and I'm not sure of what current/future movies you are referring to that are going to depict "more of the truth of things." I'm an avid movie fan and think movies are getting worse and worse. Hollywood keeps churning out crap.

Of course theres been contreversial movies all since movies started. But the regulations and the things that can be done are different now. That's more what I'm refering too. The way things can be presented is a lot more open and free than in the past. I mean Lucy and Dezi slept in Separate beds in I love Lucy! Now we can show more of the truth of things. Also, just think about the sheer volume of movies being made. Hell, I could make a movie about something I believe in and I gauarantee that through the internet it would be Seen. So we have more people making important films/documentaries/etc, and there's not so much pressure for it to be a hit. It just needs to be seen. Granted not all are like this and I love the gross comedy as much as the next person and most movies are made to make money, but I think nowadays there's more of a chance to underdogs to speak their mind.
