It's one of the biggest events of the year: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding [1]! The couple tied the knot [2] at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, and not only has Meghan officially become a royal [3], but she has also acquired a new title.
On the day of the wedding, Queen Elizabeth II officially announced that the former Suits actress [5] is now the Duchess of Sussex!
"The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom [6] on Prince Henry of Wales," the statement read [7]. "His titles will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. Prince Harry thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, and Ms. Meghan Markle [8] on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex."
Queen Elizabeth II decided to change Harry's title [9] from His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales to the Duke of Sussex (similar to what she did for Prince William [10] when he married Kate Middleton in 2011). They both have a nice ring to it — don't you think?
