Jan 6 2018 - 1:10pm

In case you missed it, Ellen Page is married [1]! The Flatliners actress surprised her Instagram followers on Jan. 3 by announcing her marriage to now-former girlfriend Emma Portner [2]. Though there aren't any details about how they tied the knot — they simply shared a picture of their wedding bands [3] — we did our due diligence and researched everything there is to know about Ellen's new wife. Get to know Emma with the seven facts ahead.

Dance is a big part of her life.

Emma took a liking to dance at the young age of 3, according to a personal profile published by The Cut [5], and she attended dance school during her formative years, focusing on contemporary styles with mesmerizing, fluid movements. Emma founded her own dance company, Emma Portner and Artists [6], in New York City, and she teaches at the Broadway Dance Center [7].

She's seven years younger than Ellen.

Emma is 23 years old, and her new wife is 30.

She's from Canada, just like Ellen!

Emma was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and she moved to New York City at 16 to train at The Ailey School, a modern dance company.

You may recognize her from a Justin Bieber music video.

Emma seems to be pretty tight with Justin, as she both choreographed and starred in his music video for "Life Is Worth Living," which has garnered nearly 50 million views to date. Soon after, she was given the opportunity to choreograph a portion of Justin's Purpose World Tour. "The tour was something so unlike me, but I'm really grateful for that opportunity," she told Dance Spirit magazine [8] in 2016. "It opened me up to this elite world of artists that I never would have been exposed to."

Her relationship with Ellen began on Instagram.

It looks like Ellen is a fan of the good ol' slide-into-the-DMs move. Back in March 2017, Emma posted a dance video to the tune of a Sylvan Esso song [9], and the band reposted it [10] on their Instagram. It caught the attention of Ellen, who DMed Emma on Instagram, The Cut reports. A few months later, the two were spotted sharing a kiss in LA [11] and then later attended the Flatliners premiere together [12], walking hand in hand down the red carpet.

She and Ellen have collaborated on dance routines.

Emma has enlisted Ellen's help with a handful of creative dance-related projects since they became an item, including their own interpretation of Britney Spears's "Lucky," [13] a stunning joint routine to Sylvan Esso's "Slack Jaw" (above), and a short film titled "You Don't Live Here Anymore." [14]

She's won awards for her choreography.

Even before her Justin Bieber stint, Emma made waves within the dance world on her own. Back in 2012, she was awarded the designation of young choreographer of the year by the American Dance Awards, and she's won a handful of other national and regional awards, according to her Broadway Dance Center profile [15]. Her captivating moves even caught the attention of The New York Times, which described her [16] as "beguiling as she contorts her frame into odd angles, balances on her toes and pirouettes."
