Jan 3 2014 - 10:45am

What's been dubbed Winter storm Hercules has made headlines this week, hitting the East Coast with incredibly chilly temperatures and insane amounts of snow in a very short period of time. Heavy snowfall first hit the area around Thursday, and people across the Northeast took to social media to share pictures of the storm [1]. Since then, areas north of Boston have seen almost two feet of snow, temperatures in parts of Connecticut have ranged from -5 degrees Fahrenheit to -20, and NYC's been hit by nearly 10 inches in 24 hours. Following the first day of the storm, new NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio was spotted shoveling snow [2] outside his home, and his son, Dante, joked with friends [3] about requesting a snow day from his dad. Meanwhile, cities like Washington DC and Chicago are feeling the effects, and The Weather Channel reports that another storm is coming [4]. As Winter continues to make itself known, take a look at some of the most striking pictures from the Hercules storm.
