Would Beyonce Make a Good Wonder Woman?

Beyonce Knowles wore a superhero-esque metal glove on her hand for the MTV EMAs on Wednesday night and according to the singer/actress she's ready for the cape part too. She recently revealed that she would love to take on the role of Wonder Woman on the big screen. She said it would be "a dream come true" and that having a black woman in the role would be "a powerful thing." So what do you think — would Beyonce make a good Wonder Woman?

Er NO. Megan Gale's got it in the bag if we're going on looks alone.

"Skin color should be seen as just another physical trait here, and a requirement for the role. Suppose we had a white guy playing the role of Malcolm X or something? That would be just as silly." I agree, I mean she is not a great actress by any means either which is another reason why I wouldn't want her to do it but Wonder Woman is white, that's just a fact - I HATED that they cast Jessica Alba in Fantastic 4 for the same reason (and Halle Barry as Storm!). It has nothing to do with race but being a fan of these comics makes me want a more accurate portrayal.

I think Sarah Lancaster from Chuck should play wonderwoman. She has the bone structure and everything. Althought Megan Fox is a good choice. She's just too petit to be an amazon. Sarah Lancaster is beautiful!

I don't think Beyonce would be a good choice based on her acting skills (or lack thereof). Pallas Athena, I agree with you and I don't think you are being racist. Trust me, I'm definitely not racist ESPECIALLY against black people and I have friends of all ethnicities. BUT I don't think that certain people should play certain roles for authenticity's sake. If there was a black superhero, I wouldn't think that a white person should get that part. By the way, Halle Berry played Catwoman and I think that is more of a race-neutral role than Wonder Woman. I don't think it would be a problem if a woman of mixed race played WW either...actually that would be appropriate since, as others mentioned before, Lynda Carter is of mixed race. The example of Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder is not really valid anyway because his character in the movie was a white actor playing a black person for a film.

Thanks Sarana. Honestly, I don't think Beyonce could play the part. She said something about race, but she isn't that great an actress. I think a lot of superhero movies fail anyway and those with amazing actors (or great stories like Batman and Spiderman and even Iron Man) are the only ones that do well. I just hope that when the WW movie comes out the actress picked is one that can act and looks like WW.

I don't understand why she says having a black woman play wonder woman would be "a powerful thing"? Is it because (a) It would be a different take on the character of wonderwoman (b) Black women are better than any other race of women, or (c) Black women are looked down upon, so it would be cool if wonderwoman, a hero, were black. ..I hope it's (a), but I think she just needs to be more clear on what she is saying because it sounds a little bit racist... Oh and I think her acting sucks. If they were to use a black woman for the part I think Halle Berry would be great. Otherwise, Kate Beckinsale would be a perfect wonderwoman.

Unless wonder woman will be portrayed as a deaf mute that stands in a corner in a costume and never moves, speaks or sings, then no.

Of course she wants to play Wonder Of course she does. Hollywood has so little integrity now that something as stodgy as an Oscar is basically up for grabs...for the right price, of course. That Beyonce should have Oscar buzz (and that it should be because her acting coach, and her acting coach alone, said so) is just beyond ridiculous. She actually admitted to doing a dramatic scene and immediately afterward jumping up and down with her Mom and entourage. "That was it," is what she As if a portrayal should be so uneven that one gauges her success by one scene. Are you kidding me? If she's nominated for an Oscar -- even nominated -- I'll know Hollywood is as vapid as MTV.

I think *an actress* would be a better choice for the part! (Then again I don't get the big deal about her singing either, but I do think she's pretty.)

Pallas Athena, I don't understand why people don't understand you and are trying to make your posts about racism. It is not about racism it is about wanting to character to look like the character she is! So I completely agree with you.

Wow! If I ever saw Megan Gale walking down the street I would swear she is Wonder Woman. It is crazy how much she looks like her. Also, I already posted comments about how I would prefer roles where people look like who they're portraying (unless the actor is absolutely amazing at their job - unlike Beyonce...or most people who try to play superheroes) and that is why I can't really watch La Bamba. Lou Diamond Phillips just doesn't look like enough (or ever a lot) like Ritchie Valens.

Jennifer Garner would make a good Wonder Woman, I think. Just throwin' it out there. She really can act, I saw her on Broadway last year and she was great.

My, she looks silly in that picture! Megan Gale has been associated with the role for a while, Beyonce coming out and saying she wants it is another example of her arrogance, she thinks she's a bigger name and the studio will take her instead. The studio have also denied rumours of Megan Fox taking the role. George Miller, the director, has said Megan's screen test was great and she's been in boot camp preparing for the role. Here's a pic of Megan, I do think she's kinda perfect for the role.

Australian Supermodel Megan Gale has been connected with this part and while I have no idea if she can act she certainly looks the part. Perfectly I think.

Austerity--never once did I say that WW had to be portrayed by a Black woman...I just find it hard to believe that a fictional character would have to be portrayed only by a white woman in order to be believable. There are instances when a character has been changed and further developed in order to create believable character. **This is a bad example only because the movie was horrible** Halle Berry portrayed Catwoman and if my memory serves me correctly she was white in all the Batman comics...what I am saying is that characters have always been developed in order to fit certain actors and actresses. I, for one, don't think that a Black, Spanish, Asian Wonder Woman is so far fetched when stories like this have been manipulated time and time again just to fit the right actresses... And the difference between Malcolm X and Wonder Woman is that you can't manipulate what an ACTUAL person looks like compared to that of a comic book character. You can't re-write Malcolm X and his features...then it wouldn't be Malcolm X. I mean William Moultan Marston who created the Wonder Woman series could very easily re-create the character and give her a different backstory and a completely different look tommorow. and Alice Green its not a matter of a black person playing a white one is saying that a black actress should be playing the title role in the movie about Jacqueline Kennedy because that just wouldn't be believable and quiet frankly would be absurd...but to say that a character like Wonder Woman would have to be played by a white woman only is crazy to me...especially since technically she isn't a white woman...but is an Amazon...

I'm Just Me ~ What difference does it make whether Malcolm X was a real person vs. Wonder Woman being a comic book character? The analogy is the same. If WW has been portrayed as a white (or half-latina, as someone mentioned) woman for years in comic books, is it so strange to say that a black woman may not be the first choice to play the role? It is just another physical trait that would make the character look more authentic. I'm not saying a black woman would act badly while playing the role of WW; I'm saying she would look less believable, and yes, because she's black. I believe this is quite a valid point, and shouting about race here is just to add drama. For your convenience, let's stick to a 'cartoon'/fictional character example instead. Suppose we made a movie on Barbie. Would you caste a curly brunette to play Barbie (without letting the actress dye/style her hair blonde, that is)? That would not be accurate either. Although here, it's about hair color and not race, so I'm sure nobody would object to me saying that..? I maintain that people are just touchy when it comes to anything to do with race. Furthermore, I imagine a lot of other people fiercely nod yes in agreement because they're afraid of being made out to be racist. While in fact, the issue has nothing to do with such thoughts.
