Are You Surprised by the Ellen Allegations?

A writer who worked with Ellen DeGeneres on her sitcom Ellen says he's not surprised that Ellen went back to work on her talk show despite the strike because she doesn't actually show her writing staff the respect they deserve. Among other complaints, he claims that she accused her staff of being unfunny when jokes flopped and stole their lines for her own stand up routine. We want to know — are you surprised by these allegations?

She made it for years without writers, why would she have to take their stuff on stage now? I'm glad she is going on without them, it's shows that she's real and not just reading lines.

Personally, I wish she would continue to cross the picket line. Maybe after the popularity of her show plummets, she'll begin to appreciate her team more. What a disgusting thing to do.

I used to not like her before when she had her sitcom, but once she started doing her talk show someone I knew said that it was really funny and to try watching it. I did and I really liked it and her. I thought she was really funny and down to earth and genuinely seemed like a "real person". If you watch her show it is so neat how she calls people and she really give so much away and does a lot for people. I guess that's why it's so hard for me to believe all these allegations. I hope that she is just doing this for the staff that need to work and the people that have made travel arrangements to come to her show. I guess the truth will come out eventually and I hope it's good!

With the very recent dog drama (as well as random stories from over the years), I'm not surprised at all. While it's nice that she said she was doing it for the people who come to be in the audience, it seems odd that she's the ONLY comedian who has a show (albeit, hers is daytime) that went back to work.

I don't believe it and I'm sorry but I can't respect someone who is on strike talking bad about someone they work for. She sounds like she doesn't take crap and there is nothing wrong with that. There are times to be nice and then there are times to be tough. Why are women expected to be nice and let people slack off? If the writers are doing a bad job she has every right to call them out on it. '

I'm not surprised by the allegations, people in Hollywood sling gossip without a break. But I'd be hardpressed to believe it to be explicitly true. Looks like someone was on the wrong side of her in a bad mood one day... Had a bad time working there which could have absolutely nothing to do with Ellen... People will insult the person who will get them the most notice... If I were going to start shittalking it'd be about a higher up absolutely, why knock out the little guys who won't get you anything?? I highly doubt it's true. I firmly believe people spread gossip like it's their job (ohwait, it is for some of them! hehe)

I KNOW 99% of people in showbiz are phonies so she should be no different. As a support staff personnel myself, I know they all thank her for continuing to do the show so they can pay their bills while the rich people fighting with the super rich people fight for a few hundred dollars a year and allow the staff everywhere else get fired. It's a bloodbath already people. Most media outlets aren't reporting it but assistants ALL OVER Hollywood have already been fired over these 2 groups behaving like fools. Oh and most of those assistants have car payments, rent & car payments to make and oh yeah, they also mostly make less than $25K a year trying to move up in the business. Great isn't it?

I can believe this even though it disappoints me that one of the few celebrities I used to think was down to earth has ended up like most celebrities in the industry. Yes, there are probably a few decent ones like a commenter mentioned, but I would say a good 95% of them are pompous assholes who are completely detached from the real world, real people, and real issues that are so much more important than a dog. From my experience meeting celebrities at events or on the street, the more famous they are the more conceited and out of touch they are from reality. The "B-list" stars tend to be nicer because I think they still appreciate their fans and realize they would be serving us food at a cafe in NYC if it wasn't for our support and admiration. Once they make it to the top though..woo! They completely forget how they got there and their perspectives change. They have their millions so why respect the fans, extras on the set, or the writers who help them come up with successful and comedic material? I realize I'm generalizing but I believe that my generalization applies to the good number of celebrities in Hollywood. Many act like they are too good to sign an autograph, take a minute to take a photo or talk to their fans, or in this case support the people who work behind the scenes. I just hope that if I'm ever lucky to be admired by a group of fans for whatever I do that I'll still be grounded enough to appreciate the people who gave me my success and fortune.

I hope it's not true. I've liked Ellen since she had her sitcom. She's worked hard. I don't care too much for her talk show, however. :roygbv:

people love to talk shit about successful people. and even if she does tell her writers they aren't funny when a joke bombs, hello, they are paid to come up with funny. a celeb with an ego is hardly news.

She's cutting out the part of her show that the writers contribute to, and carrying on the rest of her show that keeps the rest of her employees taking home a paycheck. Sounds like a good compromise. I understand that the writers need to make a stand, but there are a lot of other people who are losing their jobs and their paychecks right now that deserve a little support as well.

Nobody ever asked in a poll before. I thought she was annoying and self absorbed long before Iggy-gate.

how come none of this came out until after she crossed the picket line and pissed everyone off? its just some bitter FORMER writer with an ax to grind. and why is no one surprised after the "dog thing", that shelter took a dog away from a little girl, if anyone is a diva in the incident its the owner of the shelter

I used to like Ellen. Then came the whole dog things and really, I think it was VERY wrong of her to try to use her celebrity to just get her way. As if she didn't know what she was doing! And besides it was revealed this wasn't the first dog she rehomed in the last few years. So, nope I'm not surprised, her true colour came to light during the iggy incident.

I think that anyone who is ambitious and successful, they will be difficult to deal with and very demanding. And that goes for any business industry. I think that in Ellen's case, it's her name and persona leading the show and well... no one said she has to be nice to make a show work; work is work right? So all that to say that I believe the rumors might be true but really, who cares? the show is funny and she makes it work. So whatever.

Heck, the WRITERS are striking.. that doesn't mean that she has to in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I adore watching all the celebs who are standing beside their writers, but if Ellen's attitude is more of 'the show must go on', then I think that's perfectly respectable too. This strike sucks.. come guys settle your arguments, we need are TV!!! WE NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED IT!!!! hehe
