Are You Surprised by T.R. Knight's Comments About Grey's?

T.R. Knight landed on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, finally opening up about his big decision to leave Grey's Anatomy. He essentially chalks up the move to his disagreements with the show's executive producer, Shonda Rimes, and the fallout from Isaiah Washington's profanity-laced tirade in 2006. He said:

  • On his frustration: "My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about George]."
  • On coming out publicly after Isaiah's incident: "I think she was concerned about having my statement come out so close to the [initial] event."
  • On leaving his $14 million contract: "From an outsider's perspective, I get the [impression that] 'He’s just a spoiled actor…he doesn’t know how good he has it. There are a lot of people who would like to be in my position. But in the end, I need to be fulfilled in my work."

It's interesting to finally hear the backstory after years of rumors about the show and its cast, so tell us — are you surprised T.R. Knight is finally making a comment?

Not to mention they both seem to forget it was an ensemble cast. It means everyone gets a chance to shine. Just because you got a storyline you didn't like and then got to take a step back at FULL PAY regardless, I don't see why they had to make such a fuss. Stop acting like you made the show, the show made you. Otherwise you'd be the same nobody that you were before you joined. I get so sick listening to him and Heigl go on about how Shonda ruined their characters. Why? Because the storyline made people dislike George and Izzie? Meredith Grey was the most despised character on Grey's for the entire run and she was the LEAD! But I've never head Ellen say one bad thing about the writing. She merely did her job. Just because the storyline was unpopular doesn't mean the writing was bad, so he just needs to shut up. So what people hated your character. A good actor rises above bad storylines. A good actor does the job whether the character is well liked or not. They don't complain and demand new storylines.

Whatever TK. George was not the lead! So I don't know why he or Heigl complain as though their characters were so very important that they couldn't for a season take a backseat so other better liked characters could take the forefront. Let's not pretend that George or Izzie were ever really very nice characters. He was always whiny and complaining and she was always judgmental and complaining. Both of them got on my nerves and I'm super glad that at least one of them is gone. Pity Heigl won't join him, but then there's still hope.

I don't think being paid a lot means you have to keep your mouth shut or be treated anyway. It seems like the people who produce and write that show are kind of crazy. Despite having excellent actors and characters they make horrible decisions left and right. The way they get rid of characters abruptly and have people make out of character life decisions all the time is ridiculous. I think anyone who thinks someone can't joke or complain about their job is jealous and needs to get over it. I'd like to make that kind of money, but I don't and I'm okay with it. It doesn't mean I can't understand where someone else who is frustrated is coming from. People jumped on Katherine Heigl when she was just joking about her long day. And yes 17 hour days feel exactly the same no matter what your's just obviously more worth your time.

Him and Heigl are just ungrateful. Without Grey's he would be a waiter somewhere.

i'm on the fence about it. i really don't understand why a lot of actors bad mouth the hand that fed them all these years and gave them fame. i know that he wasn't the happiest but that's what happens in the lifetime of a show. you may be on top one year and just not the next and you kind of have to deal with it.

I'm sad because I loved his character. Quirky but such the cute, nice guy. That's too bad he's deciding to leave. I myself would love to work in the industry and to think he is walking away from a highly rated show and 14 million is just absurd! If I were him I'd find a way to work it out...

I make 45 thousand a year going on 50 thousand and he thinks 14 million is nothing to smile about.. what a douch

It's just disappointing, if you think back to season 1, George was such a great character in the show. It seems like a lot of outside influences changed & the show changed too in a negative way. it's a shame.

I'll go on the record as one of those outsiders who think people who get paid $14 million have it pretty good.
