This Little Girl Standing Up to an Antigay Preacher Will Inspire You

Jul 1 2015 - 12:00pm

Nearly a week after the Supreme Court's historic gay marriage ruling [1], candid reactions [2] continue to pour in from across the country. In the latest viral moment, a little girl named Zea Bowling takes a stand for her beliefs at the ComFest music festival in Columbus, OH. As a group of people celebrated Pride last Saturday, a man preached near a "Jesus Saves From Hell" sign. Zea responded by looking him straight in the eye and holding out her rainbow flag, showing everyone around her just how golden silence can be. Touched by her bravery, people walked up and gave Zea high fives and fist bumps.

Perhaps no one is prouder than her father, Ryan Bowling. "Zea didn't just flash the flag at that hatemonger, and bail," Ryan wrote in a moving Facebook post [3] on Sunday. "They went toe to toe, for several minutes, while he bellowed all of his fire and brimstone right in her face. Grown man vs first grader. She told me afterward that she did feel scared. The one thing the people of #comfest2015 never let her feel though? Alone. #happycomfest #asseenincolumbus." After you see Zea's bravery in the video above, check out the cute and hilarious things other kids said about gay marriage [4].
