Anne Hathaway Just Poked Fun at That Time She Hosted the Oscars With James Franco

Anne Hathaway knows that fans tuning in to Sunday night's Oscars ceremony are already expecting the unexpected — but she's here to remind us all that no matter what goes down during the show, it's, uh . . . "been worse." The actress took to Instagram ahead of the event on Feb. 24, where she poked a little fun at the time she hosted the Oscars alongside James Franco back in 2011. "No matter what happens with today's show, just remember, it's already been worse," the 36-year-old captioned a photo. "Happy Oscars!"

If you're in need of a refresher, both actors were widely criticized after hosting the show eight years ago, with critics ripping Hathaway for her excessive energy and doing the same to Franco for his lack thereof. Hathaway spoke about the gig in an interview with People back in January, joking that Franco "didn't give me anything," and revealing that she was apprehensive about doing the show from the start.

"God, I just remember the night before we're about to go up there, and me turning to everyone and going, 'Am I too much? This feels really big to me,'" she said. "And the producer just went, 'No! Don't do less. Do more if you need to.' And I was like, 'Oh okay, I guess it's going great.' And I didn't realize what was happening about that whole thing." The show may not have been received as well as the two of them may have thought it would be, but it's great to see her being a good sport about it.
