All the (Rare) Times Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin Opened Up About Their Private Romance

Brenda and Macaulay met in 2017 working on mutual pal Seth Green's Changeland film in Thailand. They were romantically linked shortly after, when spotted on a double date with Seth and his wife, Clare Grant. According to Entertainment Tonight, Brenda said they were able to bond over their experiences as child stars. They each have Hollywood résumés that speak for themselves, with Macaulay playing roles like Kevin McCallister in Home Alone and the eponymous lead in Richie Rich, and Brenda as London Tipton on The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and other Disney Channel shows.

For the first two years of their relationship, Brenda and Macaulay stayed relatively quiet when asked about each other. Brenda told Us Magazine in 2018, "I don't like to talk about my personal life, but everything's wonderful and I'm happy," and echoed a similar sentiment to Refinery29 the following year. However, in 2020, the couple sat down for Macaulay's Esquire profile and discussed their relationship in depth publicly for the first time.

Macaulay thought their relationship was too good to be true when they started dating. Now, they own a home. They have two cats, a fish, a Shiba Inu, and a parrot. She keeps a notebook by her bedside to fill with witty one-liners he says during the day. "People don't realize how incredibly kind and loyal and sweet and smart he is," Brenda said. "Truly what makes Mack so special is that he is so unapologetically Mack. He knows who he is, and he's 100 percent okay with that. And that to me is an incredibly sexy quality. He's worked really hard to be the person he is."

During his Esquire interview in February 2020, Macaulay revealed he and Brenda were trying for a baby. "We practice a lot," he joked. "We're figuring it out, making the timing work. Because nothing turns you on more than when your lady comes into the room and says, 'Honey, I'm ovulating.'" A little over a year later, their son Dakota was born.

Brenda is still steadily working on onscreen Hollywood projects, but Macaulay has stepped back in the last few years to focus on his Bunny Ears website and podcast. She acknowledges that he's been through so much, including the loss of his sister, who their son Dakota is named after.

"I truly believe that he is the actor he is now because of all the things he had to go through," Brenda said. "He has gone through so much tragedy; he's had so many ups, so many downs; he's seen the ugly side of this industry; he's also seen the amazing side of this industry. So he can pinpoint exactly what he doesn't want and what he doesn't like about it. But yeah, I hope, I hope, I hope."

The couple almost never posts about their relationship on social media, but for Macaulay's 40th birthday last August, Brenda made an exception. "Happy 40th birthday to this magical being," she wrote on Instagram. "I could sit here and write endlessly about how wonderful, kind, loving, genuine, loyal, honest, brilliant and hilarious you are, and how grateful I am that I get to share and do this life thing with you. But firstly, that would take me an eternity and secondly, you won't even see this because you don't ever use instagram. Hahaha. My unicorn that I never thought could exist, I am luckiest person in the world because I am loved by you."
